A good option would be to get a part time LVN job and do the RN program. Some companies will work around your schedule if needed and hire you on as an RN. That way you can build your skills and it will not be such a shock when you go to become an RN. Good luck!

Wow that is a lot! I do home health and we have one on one care. It can be much easier depending on who you work with and how the family is. I would recommend this if you are planning on attending school. Good luck!

Hello everyone, There has been some recent debate at my job as to whether an LVN can do an Iv Heparin flush. I understand we cannot do an iv push of medication but is an Iv flush of Heparin different? It does not specifically say on the boards website and everyone has something different to say. Any answers will be greatly appreciated! Next step for me tomorrow will to call the boards and get some answers.

Having an IV cert may increase your pay. I have mine and it does not affect my salary one bit. I am still glad i got it because i can potentially move to another job that requires it. I have been told that lvn's do not generally use their IV cert but i believe the more certs the better for you to get a good job. I have also been looking into a lot of jobs here in southern California and jobs require an associates degree as an LVN. Might as well go for your Rn degree and make a bit more money. I currently am in home health in Riverside and i make 20$ but my pay has not been increased in years! It is a bad budget crisis right now and unfortunately health services, teaching and government jobs get cut.

Lucky you guys! I am barely getting into my science pre requisites for applying for the program. They are so hard to get into now since the budget crisis. I cant wait to be starting as well! Good luck to you all! It is such a long and challenging journey but the greatest achievement!

Out of 44 only 14-15 pass? That's insane! Reading these posts I'm seriously considering moving to another school. It is hard to even find a good teacher at Chaffey as it is. Unfortunately most community colleges are hard to get classes when you apply period! Congratulations on all who passed!

That is scary because even just doing the pre requisites can be difficult! Depending on what school you go to, the teachers can be really mean and un- necessarily difficult.

Yeah at Chaffey where i attend its based on a lottery. But the better GPA for yourself, the more you have challenged yourself to get better grades because the program i hear is tough. I am myself doing my pre courses and it takes forever! It is very easy to get discouraged. You can also try and finish your AA in science. I read that they are getting rid of the Lvn bridge programs so it should not make a difference with experience once you get into the course. But never give up on your dreams! It makes it all the more sweeter when you do achieve that goal! Good luck to you.

No more LVN-Rn bridge program?! Damn how on earth do they expect to have nurses with this nursing shortage by not allowing anyone into the programs. Its becoming as hard as becoming a doctor

go straight for the RN! its so much more worth it and you practically learn the same stuff.. Ive been really curious about their program too cause its much cheaper then West coast university. Good luck! and im sure no matter what you do, you will do fine! Its just a matter of staying focused and studying and not giving yourself doubts :nuke:

Dont give up on knowing that there are plenty of great jobs with great people! My first job as a home health nurse was horrible cause they took new grads, made you sign a contract and treated you terrible. I was 21 at the time and didnt know a thing about the in's and outs. Keep your head high and keep your options open for whats right for you. If you dont like it leave cause there are always plenty of jobs out there :)

hi everyone.. i live in california and was thinking of changing jobs from an in home heath care agency to kaiser permanente but my boss says they dont pay well.. i was curious to find out if anyone knows any info.. ive searched but cant find any starting rate.. i currently make 19 an hour and seeing that if i had to make a pay cut i wouldnt be worth it.. or maybe they start low and you quicky build with experience.. any advice?
