West Coast University BSN Program???

Published

Hi Everyone!!!!!

So lol I'm going to put my life in a nutshell, I'm 20 yrs old and I live in NY, and I'm considering on going to WCU to obtain my BSN, I have most of my science and general ed pre-reqs completed. I decided to go this route cuz I just wanted to get this over with, and I most definetly like the idea of getting my bachelors in 2yrs time versus getting my associates degree at my local community college in the same amout of time. Anyways I have read about the costs and stuff but I have just some basic questions for anyone that just enrolled, currently enrolled or an alumni of WCU.

1. How time consuming are the classes?

2. Are the clinicals hard?

3. Was the HESI entrance exam easy and what did it consist of?

4. What are the costs?

5.Are they helpfull at finacial aid?

6.Would a person be able to work full time while attending?

That's all I can think of as of now, so whatever help you can give me will be greately appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chikita =)

Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best!

I'm really glad they are getting accredited hopefully they will get the NLN accreditation soon, has anyone heard if they are working on it??

Anyways I'm coming in to LA on April 30th to take my HESI....does anyone have any helpful tips towards passing the test that they can give me????

Oh and who is starting at LA campus in august????

So, answer to your last question. Chikitakisses...they wont be accredited to both CCNE and NLN. You get only accredited to one. I called NLN and asked as well. You need to have one of their organizations on your accreditations.

In terms of your test! Study! I did not pass my first test. I got 78.18%, and had to redo it. And then I got 86.90%.

Make sure you take your time, and really read the questions. You will do it!!

Good Luck!

Had you studied for your test the first time around???

What did you feel was the most difficult thing?

I'm really nervous about this and I want to pass it on my first try since I'm coming out from NY.

I did study the first time around. On math, make sure you understand ratio! Math you can do really good, if you study! Do you have the study book from WCU? I am Swedish, so the english part was harder for me. I had trouble with the reading comprehension.

You should do fine! How long are you going to be here in LA? If, fo what ever reason you do not pass the first time, you can study a couple of more days, and then do it again. I did it on Friday, and then redid it on Monday, and I passed. You then know how the test is. The only part of the test that is boring, is that it is 4 hours long! Anyway, this is the only time you have to do this. I kept seeing myself pass, and kept holding that in my vision, and I did.

There is 1 part math - 55 questions

There is 3 parts english - about 55 questions each, so total 165. They want to make sure you understand english!

Hope this helps!

Yeah I actually do have the study book, and I'll be in LA for 4 days I'm taking the test on a Thursday, the dean of admissions said that if I do fail it I can retake it the Monday before I leave. Sitting down for 4hours does sound tedious, but I think I actually rather take my time that rush through it. I actually just finished studying the math section right now and did all the sample questions...later on I'll do the practice test. I'm trying to memorize metric conversions since I've heard there is a lot of them on the test. I have reviewed vocab, grammar, and the reading comprehension and I feel a bit confident about it.

How many days of studying did you put in to it??

How many do you recommend?

Thanks so much for the help =]

You will be fine. I studies all together, 2 weeks.

reason 1 - Because I have not gone to school since 1996

reason 2 - second language

So, if you have reason 1 and 2 under control, you should not have to study for 2 weeks, but I highly recommend more, so you pass then less. First time I barely looked over the english, because I do speak with barely any accent.

If you feel confident about english, then make sure you get the math in order, and know it. It is pretty easy, if you know what they are asking for.

They will ask a questions about everything, and make sure you know the tables in the back of math. It helps a lot!

Good luck!

Im confused.. so anyone with a highschool diploma or ged can attend assuming they can pay because the pre-req's are built in?

In a nutshell yes

I wouldn't recommend going to that school unless you have the money, money that can back you up(family, financial aid, grants, whatever), and if you seriously have no patience in getting your bsn.

I almost enrolled myself to the BSN program at West Coast in Ontario. I had all pre-reqs except 3 more that i needed to complete for them and they lowered my cost to 100K. Which was still intimidating because i couldnt get any financial aid. The Rep that helped me out was really pushy and told me lies like i was going to be making 75 to 85 bucks an hour once i graduate and when i told her that i wanted to do lvn first, she made it seem like west coast was the only school to have the lvn-rn bridge. Also, 2 of my friends that recently graduated from WCU told me to go a different route: LVN(private) then LVN-RNorBSN at Cal State or CC. If you want to be stuck in debt for the next 5-10years then go to West Coast.

Well I passed the test and all but now I'm really hesitant to go to WCU because I got accepted to the ADN program at the community college I attend....WCU is a lot of money and I'm not sure If I wanna incur in $100,000 of debt before I'm 23

If you got into the ADN program then go there. You can finish up your BSN afterwards. 100,000 is too much money to spend on a college that isn't ccne or nln accredited. Community college will cost about $3,000 all in. You can spend the other 100,00 on your ben and msn and car and house deposit.

hey chikitakisses did you say u were from NY cuz i am actually looking into WCU and I am from chicago. I was wondering what was your profile when you applied there, if you dont mind me asking.
