I know it's early to say this, but welcome to Texas!

I'd rather buy immediately, as the rents for decent apartments can run from $550 to $800 monthly. I'd rather have a $500 to $800 mortgage payment than an $800 rent payment anytime. You are throwing money in the garbage when you rent.

yahoooooooo, welcome to Texas baby!

There are several good apartment finders, if you find one, they will take you to the different apartments like a realtor would a home.

I understand where the commuter is coming from, but on that token, I would rent for at least 6 months to make sure you are in a place you want to be in. We did that, and moved before the lease was up. During the day it was fine, but after dark I was ready to go. I would rather brake a lease agreement than foreclose because the house is not sellable after you move into it. Also, I dont remember if you have kids, but the school system my son was going to be in was the major reason we moved to a different place.

i have been reading your posts the last few weeks, so happy you are joining us in texas. you are going to love the dfw area. it is great. i live in granbury and is still the small town life and only 30 minutes to ft worth. good luck on your adventure!!

If people from Texas are as nice as you all are on here then I am SUPER exctied about moving!!!!

Yes, we do have a kiddo....he is going to be 6 years old 2 days after X-mas. He is in private school now but we have heard GREAT things about some of the schools there in DFW so we are debating going public school.

We have NO idea what we are going to do when it comes to "liveing" We are able to pay 6 months in advance for a apartment then look around. So we are still trying to decide. We dont think we would even be able to buy within the 2 months anyway. We are somewhat in "shock" still with the housing prices in DFW....Chad was looking at homes around 280-325k & was like, "we can get a estate!":lol2: Here in Denver you really dont get much for that....atleast in a good area~

Well I will be going to school in Dallas but we have heard great things about Ft Worth but dont know if I want to commute everyday while I am in school. Where is Mesquite around? We are going to be going the Texas for the 1st time in a few weeks so I am trying to make a list on where we should take a looksie at;)

mesquite is 25 minutes east of dallas on highway 80. my husband said to recommend anywhere north or east dallas. everything else is "rough", and do not even go into oak cliff. not worth getting shot at:idea: .

this is the best version of this that i have seen. let's hear it for texas!

rules of texas:

1. pull your droopy pants up. you look like an idiot.

2. let's get this straight; it's called a "gravel road." i drive a pickup truck because i want to. no matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your lexus. drive it or get out of the way.

3. they are cattle & oil wells. that's what they smell like to you. they smell like money to us. get over it. don't like it? i-20 and i-10 go east and west, i-35 goes north and south. pick one.

4. so you have a $60,000 car. we're impressed. we have $250,000 cotton strippers that are driven only 3 weeks a year.

5. so every person in every pickup waves. it's called being friendly. try to understand the concept.

6. if that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, we

will shoot it out of your hand. you better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time.

7. yeah, we eat catfish & crawfish. you really want sushi & caviar? it's available at the corner bait shop.

8. the "opener" refers to the first day of deer season. it's a religious holiday held the closest saturday to the first of november.

9. we open doors for women. that is applied to all women, regardless of age.

10. no, there's no "vegetarian special" on the menu. order steak. or you can order the chef's salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham & turkey

11. when we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. we use three spices: salt, pepper, and picante sauce!! oh, yeah....we don't care what you folks in cincinnati call that stuff you eat...it ain't real chili!! chili was born and bred in san antonio....and real chili never met a tomato!

12. you bring "coke" into my house, it better be brown, wet, and served over ice. you bring "mary jane" into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair.

13. college and high school football is as important here as the lakers and the knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.

14. yeah, we have golf courses. but don't hit the water hazards --

it spooks the fish.

15. colleges? try texas tech, texas a&m or university of texas. they come outta there with an education plus a love for god and country, and they still wave at passing pickups when they come for the holidays.

16. we have more folks in the army, navy, air force, and marines, than any other state, so "don't mess with texas," if you do, you will get whipped by the best.

17. always remember what our great governor sam houston once said:

"texas can make it without the united states, but the united states

can't make it without texas!"

hi all! newbie here! i'm also from denver,colorado and already in texas for the past couple week, in the process of endorsement for my license and had to pay $200 for it:roll!plus other expense e.g fingerprint,verification fees,etc:chuckle hope it's worth it! right now,i'm in the process of looking for jobs and are considering 1 or 2 facility that are offering, i just have to choose between $2 extra but 20 mins away fr where i live, or the one that just 10 mins away but pays $2 less.....

Well after debating & debating we have decided it is in our best to move to DFW & me to enter the LVN program at NTPCI in Dallas. I was signed up for Concorde here in Denver this December. NTPCI was several 1000's of dollars cheaper & wayyyyyyyyy better hours 9-3 instead of 8-5 everyday.....also the clinicals hours are better with 75% of them between 6-3.
We are taking our first trip to DFW most likely at the end of this month:balloons:
We now have to decide if we want to buy when we 1st get down there or if we want to wait a year & then buy.
I have to thank all of you that helped me in this BIG decsion & gave me all the GREAT advice on the DFW area

helllo! i came across u're post and knowing that u're planning to enroll in CC. i finished my lpn in sept'06 there and moved to dallas. CC it's a good school w/ their reputation nationwide and nclex passing grade of 100%, however.....they cost me arm and leg:roll , i don't really regret it though,they have good teachers and great facillities! but if i could turn back time:D , i would rather spends my money in somewhere else cheaper, but still accredited school though! bcos at the end.........your License is what matters most! well...good luck moving to texas! bfor i moved here, i never heard or reading that texas is one of the best place for lvn to work, but after reading some posts in this website, i'm glad to found out that although i'll miss colorado, but i'm looking forward to start my career as a nurse here in dallas!

that list is quite funny!! i have a friend whose husband is stationed at ft hood and she almost hit a cow with her car. she said that if you hit a cow and the owner finds out, you are liable for buying the cow. didn't know if she was joking or serious.

and yes, football in texas is the same as basketball in indiana.
