CNA to LPN...
Back in Colorado, I became a CNA after I completed the first ten weeks during my LPN school which included Nursing Fundamentals. I only had to pay fee for the license and passed the CNA exam and start working as a CNA to help me with my life expense while in nursing school. Now I'm working as an LVN, while taking classes for BSN program. I need to work to support my self, though I wish I could've just go straight all the way finishing school. Life is good, take one step at a time!

LPN Student - First Term almost over, any suggestions???
i also went through 13mo's program,pre-reqs included. if you can make it first term, you're in a good shape, however it will be getting tough and harder, study group might help, i prefer to study alone, attend class daily(yes it counts, everybody knows!) , and try not to work if you don't have to, i had to work and i passed all my classes just enough to pass!, i regret it,i know i could've done better w/ more studying time, so don't do it! aim for above passing grades! some of my classmates were failing bcos their grades were just not enough to pass, which is sad! so study hard and enjoy your nursing school! :pumpiron:

PN awaiting on nclex results!
i finished school on sept, took nclex on oct 17, i had a very nasty cold and coughing during the test due to all the stress and studying:bluecry1: they don't allowed coughdrops in the room, bcos the sound of wrappers will disturb others,:rotfl: so i had to wrapped my candy in tissue and sure enough the coughdrops had a taste of tissue in it. during question 80's i'm not sure if i had answered correctly, so i prayed to have more questions after 85 to prove my ability. while i'm struggling with my coughing and sneezing, it stops at 170. i slept the whole day after, 13 hrs exactly, i know it's not healthy sleeping too much:scrying: . on oct 19,48 hrs after i took the test, i checked the pearson vue website and it said that i need to pay to see my result. boy! the $7.99 was worth it, to see and read under the status: pass :roll !

How long before you were hired?
hi! i also graduated in sept, took my board in oct, and tomorrow i'll be doing my orientation for my first job as a nurse in a AL facility. in texas, hospitals and agencies required at least 1 yr experience under your LP/VN license, CNA experiences doesn't really count. i had several calls from agencies and they asked what's my GPA, unfortunately my GPA we're not high enough to be considered, since while i was at nursing school, i was also working as a Homehealth CNA in the evening,so yes i did graduated and passed board 1st time, but wish i could've get more time to study & raise my GPA, anyways, i've sent my resumes online through monster and careerbuilder.com for various homecare position and got calls but they were asking for experiences, so i went and locate the nearest LTC, Retirement community, assisted living and placed my resumes and filled out application whether they were hiring or not! i did try hospitals and search online for openings and sent applications and resumes as well. i got interview on the spot while filing out applications at 2 nursing homes, and i got hired as a prn, but since i was looking for a fulltime position, and most places especially getting close to holidays are not having opening, that's what they told me, perhaps around January or early February. around second week of november, i did got a little frustrated for not having a job yet, but i try to be patient and keep waiting for the right moment. sure enough, a nearby, upscale retirement community were looking for FT evening nurse mon-fri, when i first walked in to fill out app, i love the surrounding, and got to meet w/ the supervisor and was hired on the spot the same day. wish the best luck for you! keep searching and don't give up!

Well I am headed to Texas baby!!
helllo! i came across u're post and knowing that u're planning to enroll in CC. i finished my lpn in sept'06 there and moved to dallas. CC it's a good school w/ their reputation nationwide and nclex passing grade of 100%, however.....they cost me arm and leg:roll , i don't really regret it though, they have good teachers and great facillities! but if i could turn back time:D , i would rather spends my money in somewhere else cheaper, but still accredited school though! bcos at the end.........your License is what matters most! well...good luck moving to texas! bfor i moved here, i never heard or reading that texas is one of the best place for lvn to work, but after reading some posts in this website, i'm glad to found out that although i'll miss colorado, but i'm looking forward to start my career as a nurse here in dallas!
