Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat

World Australia

Published

Having been guilty myself of hijacking threads saying hello and just chatting to my fellow Aussies I thought it might be worthwhile for us to have a thread that is just dedicated to general Aussie chat. We can then discuss issues like the Morris - oops Davis inquiry in Queensland and what it will mean for Q health and for the rest of Australia.

We can talk cricket, sport and anything else that is just us.

Say hello to new members dropping by.

Generally find out what is happening in the rest of the country.

I will make this thread a "sticky" so that it will always be at the top of the forum.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently an American Nursing student doing an RN-MSN program in California. The reason I'm posting here is because my boyfriend, who happens to be Australian and resides in Melbourne, and I have been together for almost 3 years now and I am planning to move to Melbourne to do nursing after graduation in 2008 :)

I came across this discussion forum a few months ago and it seems to have lots of great information and resources. I look forward to learning more about Australian nursing and the process to apply/register in Australia as I complete my education here.

WELCOME and G'day! :)

You'll LOVE Australia for sure!

hi from the gold coast

i need info from as many australian nurses as possible about 12 hour shifts.i am commencing a survey on the implementation of 12 hour shifts and need good and bad feedback about 12 hour shifts. do you work off a 4 week roster or some thing else.

anything would be good, other paediatric wards in QLD are doing 12 hour shifts and some of our staff are looking to work at these hospitals and it would mean our good skill mix breaking apart and morale heading downhill.

hope to hear from you all soon

thanks :monkeydance:

I am an Rn trained in Kenya but in Australia at the moment. My last job in kenya involved doing 12 hour shifts in an emergency department. it had just been introduced and it was good for me because I was also a student and had more days off. But to be honest it was crazy by the end of the day. people were beggining to feel demoralised.

Hi

Im in NSW we do 12 hour shifts off a 6 week roster with rotation to nights 1 week in 6, works well here, everyone seems happy enough with the 12 hours and its great having the 4 days off. Some prefer to work the 3 shifts in a row, others prefer to work 2 have a day or off then work the other. Everyone works well around this as there is a good mix of staff here. I personally love doing it and havent really got anything bad to say about it. Hope it works out OK for you.

x;)

hi there,

newbie here from the Phils interested to work in Australia.. I have read some of gwenith's posts but it would help if there's somethin about visa 442. I understand it's the only route suited for me, a new graduate without experience..question: are there org still nominating for occupational training? should I apply direct to them? or are there agencies?

thanks and congrats to this forum.

Hello, I'm planning a vacation in Aus. for next Feb. Have a few friends there. Can't wait! Was supposed to go there this past Feb. but my daughter was due for her first baby ( a boy, 8 lbs, 11 oz) so I have to wait.
