  1. have you sent your transcript? that's what i sent and was accepted.
  2. if you are coming to work on a temporary visa your employer will most likely expect you to get private health insurance. there are many private health insurance providers and it can be confusing to try and make a decision, but most are similar. i use medibank private and although i've never had to use it it sounds ok
  3. Hi, I went through the competence assessment service for queensland which is made up of a challenge test and then a practical assessment after you have passed the test. it involves some multiple choice and short answer questions. as they give you a date for the test they will also send some details of the topics that will be covered in the exam. it is divided into 4 areas and you have to pass all of them by a minimum of 80%
  4. i am from the city in an african country and been working in Gold coast for a year and a half. i loved it at the beginning, but having been to sydney and melbourne a number of times, i am in the process of relocatiing to sydney. it just depends on what you are looking for. if you like a laid back lifestyle you might be better off in Queensland. otherwise its just good for holiday.
  5. I have been writting anecdotal notes for some assignment and according to my assessor, Anecdotal notes are records of what has occured and how you responded, what you learnt and how reflection can help to improve your practice. The example she gave me is by a student: " I showered a client and was much more organised than yesterday. I was really conscious of safety aspects because of the client's unstable gait. whilst showering the client, I noticed some broken skin on her sacrum. i informed my preceptor and together we discussed a plan of care in relation ti this problem. I reviewed current wound management in a text book. Appropriate wound management was implemented, as well as pressure area management. I administered the client's medication ensuring i performed the 5 rights. i was able to describe the action of the medication to both the Rn and the client. In the process of administering a client's digoxin, i noticed that her heart rate was 46 bpm. withheld and informed the Rn" Hope this helps. good luck.
  6. I have been in australia for about 1 year and people have been good. If anyone discriminates against you based on your race it reflects on them and shows just how ignorant they are. Don't let it change your attitude on everyone. Good luck
  7. Before I left Kenya for Australia I was living quite well. Nurses are badly paid there but I started a small business because I love the fine things in life and it was doing quite well. And I have no dependants so I had it all to myself.
  8. I started when I was 19 and finished RN at 22. Am now 27 and still studying
  9. I am an Rn trained in Kenya but in Australia at the moment. My last job in kenya involved doing 12 hour shifts in an emergency department. it had just been introduced and it was good for me because I was also a student and had more days off. But to be honest it was crazy by the end of the day. people were beggining to feel demoralised.
  10. Am from Kenya and still waiting QNC Decision. Is there anyone who has experienced a bridging program? I have gone through the queensland website but I don't understand most of it. And they now say you cannot email enquiries because they are too busy to reply
  11. we get this all the time. Running nose, others want their wounds dressed at 2 am coz they have an important meeting the whole day so they won,t make it for their appointment. last night someone came for a HIV test because he had hugged 2 girls!!!!!!!!! Someboby tell me, has hugging changed its meaning?
  12. Hi Am a registered nurse from kenya. I sent my application to the Queensland nursing Council after downloading the necessary forms from the website. Within three weeks they had sent me a letter to say that they've recieved my application and to wait for them to communicate. That was about 5 weeks ago and am still waiting. I've heard that they take long but am hopeful that I won't have to wait for too long. I think the most important think is to send everything that is required at once to avoid delays. there's a checklist for overseas trained nurses on their website. You can have a look.
  13. I'vo not been in one but I've met people in some exchange proggramme and I thought it was agood idea in terms of exposure a diiferrent environment. you get to learn new things and share your experiences. That is for work. Am not too sure about students but it must have its own benefits. Are you considering
  14. In my department(emergency), you'll not be there in the first place if you can't fix IV's but if for some reason you can't do it, you may request to be transferred to another unit. But there's no guarantee that you'll be transferred
  15. A patient with an asthmatic attack was to be nebulized with combivent and receive I.v cefuroxime. The nurse gave combivent I.V and started a cefuroxime neb. by the time she realised.....and that was because the combivent was looking darker than usuall!!!!
