(Another excited student post; carry-on veterans!)
I can't believe summer is almost over...
Only 4 weeks of summer left and then it's back to the grind!
Who else is starting the RN program on August 24th?
Which classes do you have?
What's your schedule like?
What are you looking forward to the most?
What are you expecting the first semester to be like?
I start my ADN on August 24 as well! I'm pretty excited and nervous as well. We just took our first dosage calculation test just this past Monday. We must pass with a 90% to stay in our program we get 2 tries. Thankfully I got 100% so I don't need to take it again. Our books are more expensive than our tuition, but my friend and I split a book bundle she took the physical books and I took the ebooks it was about $400 each.
As for my schedule I will have two nursing classes I have online pharmacology and nursing fundamentals
I have clinical Monday 0600-1245 it will be at a LTC facility but the first 3 weeks are at school.
Tuesday I have lab 1100-1350
Thursday is lecture from 0800-1050
I can't wait. I'm excited to get going and and move closer to my degree. I am also looking forward to meeting some new people with that same goals as me!
Good luck to everyone else starting and to those already going strong!
I start my bsn on August 24th! I am taking 15 credit hours, all nursing classes (prereqs ) are done. Fundamentals, med surg, clinicals, lab, and patho... and health assessments.
Monday 8-1ish
Tuesday clinic 630-230
Wednesday No school
Thursday 8-2ish
Friday 2 hours in the am for lab.
So excited. I just got my ID badge. Going to buy my scrubs, shoes, stethoscope (littman lite) and other books. I am still deciding which ones to rent and buy. I have Amazon prime and they have the cheapest books I've seen so far.
I have a 2 yr old and a 3 yr old. So excited for them to start daycare. We picked an amazing one for them they have huge indoor playgrounds and a full blown water park. They will have a BLAST while mommy is in school!!
And I have 4 weeks of freedom too. Which is soo rare. I've been in school for so long. I just took the IBCLC Exam on the 27th my brain is fried!
we just got done at the beach to celebrate and I got stung by a jelly fish. I think I will stick to safer activities, like painting the bathrooms. Hah!
That is a busy schedule. Our program is never more than 2 nursing classes in a semester..
Yeah, its a loaded program, your fall sophomore year and fall senior year you take 3 nursing classes, and your spring senior year you take 4 nursing classes (including a nursing elective), all other semesters you take two nursing classes.

I highly recommend buying all your nursing books, you may need them for multiple semesters and can be great to look back into when you don't understand a concept and can reference back.

Completely agree with this. The books that we have to get for the first semester are used through out multiple semesters of the program. Also my thought is that they would be good to have to reference back to when preparing to take the NCLEX. Before deciding to rent check and see if any of the books are going to be used in other classes, buying them on Amazon for a good deal will probably work out to be the better deal in the end.
August 24th; hmmm, a big day for most of us and myself:). That day I start a week long bridge course into the RN program. That will be from 9-1pm Monday - Friday, then I'm off again. The nursing course officially begins on September 8. I will be taking just one class; nursing IV, which is a 9 credit course. It covers mental health. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are lecture days (8-10am) Tuesdays and Thursdays are clinicals which are supposed to be from 8:30-2:30pm (that is subject to change of course).
I've already purchased all the textbooks, school store was $700, but I found a seller through Amazon (The wisdom shop) which saved me close to $400. If interested in purchasing books from here, click on used books and you will see the books, however, they are brand spanking new. They state as a disclaimer that books may have bent covers, but all the books I've purchased came without any marks or indentations. Its supposed to be a close out inventory sale. Seriously, the school bookstore had one 0f my text listed for $188, I got the same book for $95 from this store. Hope this helps with the book cost.
My expectations are high, and I am really curious to see what the clinical rotations are going to be like, mainly maternity, because our LPN class did not actually do a clinical mainly because the maternity rotations were reserved for RN students. Also, the lecture component. I feel like I did so much in LPN school, I can't wait to see the difference. I'm told its a lot more paper work than anything, but only time will tell.
I'm expecting the first semester to be nerve wrecking. Bridge students will be joining students who have already spent a year together bonding. I'm concerned I won't fit in:(
I am really hoping that once I'm in the class room it will all come back to me and I will be on par with the generic students. I have been studying aggressively since I purchase my books; hopefully I've been studying the right thing.
I wish us all great success in our studies!!

Love the wisdom shop on Amazon, ended up getting a few of my books from them at a huge discounted price and brand new. Going to start keeping an eye on books I need for next semester early to try and get those from them also. I like having the access codes and so far the books that I got from them have had all of those.
Also. For stethoscope, I HIGHLY recommend the littmam cardiolgy 3. I've had it for 5 years now and its still in perfect condition. I've had physician colleagues use it and say its the best they've used. A little pricy but worth the investment
Thanks for the recommendation, I've been torn between the cardiology III and the electronic 3200, the reviews states that the electronic 3200 helps to keep out background noise and amplifies lung/heart sounds so that one can better hear them. What are your thoughts on that? I'm not concerned about the cost if it will better help me to hear and know the different sounds. That was a major problem for me while doing the LPN program. I've been watching youtube videos featuring different heart/lung sounds, hoping to be able to tell them apart:)

I have had both. And loved both. But the reason I bought the 3200 was after major difficulty in pronouncing over a BiPap. And that is the only one I use. I turn down the volume when not needed & crank it up when necessary. I've had a couple of RTs disagree with my assessment of breath sounds - until they listened with my stethoscope!
I am starting the last semester of my BSN August 31st, I can not wait to be free ! lol I am nervous about where I will be doing my practicum and just getting through critical care. I am about ready to start saving for my boards and I've been bugging the hell out of my boyfriend for a Kaplan review book. Because of doing summer clinicals I haven't been working.Im ready to finsh already ! Good luck to all. :-D
I'm also starting the final semester of my BSN on August 24th and I'm so excited! I can't wait to get back into school and the everyday hustle and bustle...
40 days off is nice, but when you're still trying to save up tuition and have nothing to do but sit at home, you go a little stir crazy.
Luckily, I invested in two NCLEX books and have been studying my notes, so I'm leisurely getting prepared.

I like the idea of a yoga class during nursing school! What a great way to relax during such stressful times!
Good luck with your move! I have moved during school before and it isn't fun!
