Weekenders Working Weekday Holiday?

I am a weekender at my current facility. I work 7p-7a every Sat/Sun only. My facility is trying to enforce new holiday scheduling that would require weekenders to work holidays that fall M-F weekdays. Does anyone have any suggestions??

So if you have to rotate weekday holidays, is everyone else going to rotate when Christmas falls on a weekend, or is the weekend crew going to be stuck working it?

Great point.

I only work weekends. I'm considered PRN and get a higher rate (not really, but they think i'm getting millions) . I don't get holiday pay, benefits etc. Soooo, what incentive is it for me to pick up extra holidays if I don't have to? Yeah..I still think everyone should get holiday pay.

I work in a small building, so in the spirit of being a team player, I did pick up NYE and NYday to help out.

I would have to say that this type of stuff should be discussed when you are hired.

isn't Christmas.newyears on friday next year, don't have a calendar [procrastinator] but on none leap years it is usually the day following the day it fell on the current year??

They are on a Friday next year, but 11am on on Friday is considered part of the weekend program @ my hospital. My floor in particular doesn't have an 11a-11:30p shift so they start to schedule us from 7a-7:30p. If they try to make me work the eves on a Thursday, I'll raise a stink.

Unless you are a new employee (

But there were still some howls in the ranks.

I am on the weekend program myself.

Unless the holiday falls on a weekend, we DO NOT work it. That includes weekenders of any position.

2 years ago when xmas and new years were both on sundays, guess who was stuck working 2 12 hour shifts both the eves and the holidays?

I would fight this if I were you.

Weekends means just that.

Good Luck!

At my facility (SSM DePaul) and all SSM facilities EVERYONE is required to work 3 holidays per year and they are divided up into 3 groups and your position is linked to a rotation regardless of status be it FT, PT, PRN, Weekend Option. If the holiday falls during M-F, you simply are not required to do one of your weekend shifts. If the holiday falls on a weekend, you are NOT required to work it but can if you so choose.

It's not an uncommon policy. There's probably not much you can do but deal with it, or quit.

Here we allow weekenders to only work weekends. However, when Xmas and New Years falls on weekends as they do every so often they are expected to work it and not have it off.
