8 Week A&P 1 with Edukan...what do you think?

I'm thinking about picking up another class for the semester because the ones I'm currently taking aren't very challenging and don't require much outside work. Principles of Chem (less than 1 hr of homework), Yoga (no homework!), Brain and Behavior (no book=no outside work), Sign Language 1 (very little outside work). Edukan offers A&P 1 starting in March and running for 8 weeks. Do you think that's doable? I've already taken an A&P class a couple of years ago that isn't acceptable anywhere, so I feel like it won't be as tough as it would be for some people, but I don't want to get in over my head at the same time.

What do you think?

Also, they say in the syllabus that you should buy the books through eCampus, but do you see any reason why I couldn't buy through Barnes & Noble? They're quite a bit cheaper.

Why not try it out? The worst that could happen is you'll find out its too much and have to drop the class, right? And if you discover that early on, you could probably get a "W" and full refund without it ever hitting your transcript. I say go for it!

I've decided to take the A/P I class in March through Edukan too...I was initially not going to do it because the nursing school I want to apply to said they wouldn't accept it because the labs are online. But after comparing the Edukan syllabus to that of the nursing school version, I found the outlines are almost identical...both even use the same books and software! And the labs of the nursing school A/P class are also computer-based, not sure the deal is there. So I'm going to take a chance that I can get it accepted, want to knock out all the pre-reqs in advance that I can.

As for the books, I got mine through the Amazon.com marketplace. The book cost me $96 new through them compared to $146 at ecampus. The other software package (ADAM) was about $10 cheaper as well. Although I chose expedited shipping that cost me extra, there was no tax. In the end, I saved probably about $60 total. Just make sure wherever you get them that the edition numbers are the same and include the software because Amazon offered several different versions.

Good luck! If you decide to take the class, you've got a study-buddy available!!

Yeah, I was hoping to find someone else taking it! I will probably go ahead and take it if my funding comes through (the parents!) I don't qualify for financial aid so my parent's are helping me out but my dad thought $115 per hour was prett high for community college. So he had me make up a proposal for him. LOL! Can you tell he's a retired business man? To take A&P (2 semesters) at my community college I will first have to take Biology for Majors, which means 3 classes total at a cost of $924. To take A&P (2 semesters) at Edukan I can skip Bio (already have a bio class, just not the one required) and it comes out to a total cost of $920. So pretty much the same price, but that's 1 less class to buy books for, and all of those classes are only offered as 16 week classes at my school.

Also, I checked on the refund date and you have to drop by March 24th, so that's about a week in to the class.

Hopefully I'll be able to get the money to do it! Do you know who the teacher is for it? One place I look says Simmons and one place says Reichert.

I took the 8 week class last semester. It is doable, but just make sure you do not fall behind. No lecture notes, but the instructor is available for questions. Just don't fall behind, I can't stress that enough. You will be doing 2 chapters a week (and the chapters are long!), homework, discussion, and labs (using ADAM software and book) Exam every week. I received an A in the class, but put a lot of time into the class. Was burned out after.. but ok now.. Needless to say, I am taking AP2 over 16 weeks. (I am taking the class with Rio, had AP1 with Edukan)

oh, if you can, get started with the reading now!

I hope you get the $$$ it would be great to know someone in class! Yeah, it's kind of confusing about the teachers but for the 8-week course, it appears to be Simmons. Reichert teaches the 16-week version of the course.

Please keep me posted!

I was told by the school I plan to transfer to that you need to take A&P 1 & 2 at the same school. Does your accept them from different places? It was the same rule if I took anatomy separate from physiology, they both had to be from the same school. Something about educational continuity within the subject....blah, blah, blah.

I purchased my books as well from Amazon and saved $$$...

I've always heard the same thing. I'm going to take A/P II from Edukan just to be sure.

Goingformydream, it might be worthwhile to double check your nursing school to make sure they'll take the credits from two different schools if you haven't alread done so...

Whew.. you guys made my heart stop.. I just called, and they do not care if they are from separate schools.. as long as they are 4 unit classes and not 3 I had spoken with them before, and I thought they had said that (I had called to see if they accept online science classes) but you all made me nervous.. better to be safe than sorry!!!!

Sorry for the heart attack! Good thing we know CPR! Not sure how to do it online though...wonder if there's a class that covers that! Glad it works out for you!

Uh-oh, sorry for the scare!! Glad to know your school will take the credits.

And thanks again for the tips on how to approach A/P I. My book came this afternoon in the mail and I was a little overwhelmed by its size to say the least. :uhoh21: I'm looking forward to the class though!
