Weatherford LVN Spring 2014

Published

Hey guys :-) I was looking through threads and didn't see any about the LVN program this Spring at WC. I have applied to 3 schools this summer; 2 were for ADN programs and the other was WC lvn. I lacked points for the ADN programs but got a letter from WC saying Ive been chosen as a alternate in the LVN program :-)

While getting my BSN was my first choice, it is definitely a step in the right direction to get my nursing license and then continue in a bridge program. Orientation for WC is Dec 3rd. Anyone else been accepted/alternate?!?

I did and am totally overwhelmed and honestly a little discouraged!! I feel like all they focused on was the negative (how hard it will be, you'll never see your family, only a third of the last class made it, etc) instead of building us up and making us feel like we COULD do it. I mean, we made it this far!! I just don't like going into a new situation with negativity all around. But, since lots didn't show up to orientation then it sounds like alternates have a good chance!! Yay for you!!

Lol, your telling me!! I feel like we all walked in there like "nursing school orientation, whoop whoop!!", and walked out with a dear in headlights look :nailbiting:

I was talking about it to the nurses I work with, they agreed that the schools do that on purpose to weed out those who wont be able to handle it. I do think everything that was said at orientation is true, and its gonna suck for a year, but next December it could be us doing a cheesy skit for the next class lol.

I too felt really discouraged after orientation. Its not what I expected. I'm also really bummed I will have to retake A and P over after I've already had it.

I thought Id get out of A&P and also nutrition :-/

I know, that stinks about having to repeat classes.

Where were yall sitting?! I was in the front.

What do yall think about the buying the books from the book rep? I priced them in the bookstore and JUST ONE is $500 so I'm thinking the deal from the company is a best bet. So hard to know!!

I was in the very back, by all the 2013 grads.

Honestly I don't think the book deal is that bad. Plus its a package so no looking for books one by one. I would do book only though, not electronic, but that's just a personal opinion. I hate being glued to a computer lol.

No word for me yet. I doubt Ill hear anything the rest of this week because of the weather :-/

Does A&P needed to apply for the LVN program or is something that needs to be done before graduating ?

Technically there are no pre req's, just the compass test. Any college courses you have will give you extra points, but if your planning to take A&P just for the program--DONT. The program has its own A&P in the curriculum, so even if you have taken it already, you will still have to take it again. I know because I asked KL. I have taken ap and nutrition but Ill still have to take them again in the program.

Does anyone know details about the transcript requirement? Will a solid HS diploma suffice?

I dropped out of HS because I got pregnant, but then a year later I went back to a adult school to finish the classes I needed, which earned me my HS diploma. This was in 2000, and Im worried that because I don't have transcripts it will be a problem. Oh yeah, I went to school in CA so I cant just stop by there and ask.

Have you guys been able to register for your classes?

Amberranay - I sat in the very back at orientation.

Have you heard any news about whether you have a spot yet, PD82??

I haven't tried to register for classes yet, I thought they said Karen Long was going to do it for us. Maybe I misheard. I will send an email and try to find out. I think I heard that a copy of your diploma was good enough but don't quote me on that either...

Emass-I haven't heard anything yet :-/

I'm giving myself this next week(because then it's winter break), and if I don't hear anything I'll just get my Fall applications ready. I've got a few more classes done so I think I'll be competitive in the ADN applicant pool. I gotta have a plan B because I won't be able to drop everything last minute.

This week will be the kicker!! If it is meant to be, I will get the call :-)
