Weatherford College Fall 2012 start

Published

Well, I am not sure if someone has started this topic already but I wanted to find others who will be applying for Weatherford's ADN program this application period. I am scheduling my TEAS for next week. I am excited to apply and see how things go. Would love to hear from others who are applying this round as well. Thanks and Happy New Year!!!!

PS I have been taking my pre reqs at TCC.

Formack, thanks for the insight! I am glad you are doing so well, is school work something you have to work at or does it just come to you? I ask that because some people have to work really hard to maintain good grades, like me, or you have my husband who does not work at all and can pull off excellent grades. Watching the girls for spring and following all their work load right now, it just seems crazy!

A's do not just fall into my lap :) I for sure have to work for my grades. I found a SMALL group and we live near each other and we click well. We have study sessions for check offs and tests. It is easier for me to study alone or in small groups. But, you have to do what works best for you. I also make note cards and study between classes and during lunch. But, you have to find a time for you and/or your family. Unless I have a test on Monday, I generally don't study much on Sunday. That is my day to relax and just be. The first semester is hard because you are getting used to having so much going on, semester 2 is lighter though. At first it is crazy, we all thought....can we do this? But, you will get in the groove and get it done.

Thank you formack, for the insight.

I really don't think I will be able to work while going to nursing school. My husband and I are going to come up with a plan to make that work. Giving up little things like cable TV may be what we have to do.

The time with my son is so precious and I can't get that back.

I think it's probably best to see how things go for each of us nursing students. Everyone his different and I am amazed at what some of my fellow students are able to accomplish with work, school and kids. Right now is crazy as I work full time weekends including two night shifts and I am taking Micro and APII. My husband is gone to work most of the time and I make sure my son gets to school, Karate and baseball. It is alot but I wouldn't change it for the world.

I think in nursing school we can all support each other and that will make all the difference.

PS. 3 weeks to deadline!

Hey everybody, haven't been on for a while. I took the TEAS two weeks ago and bombed it, nothing to write about. So I am giving it another shot this Thurs. If I don't let my nerves get the best of me, I should do better! Let ya'll know...

Don't get discouraged Christy, I am sure you will do better this time! I am taking mine next week sometime.

Kalt, lol I don't think losing cable tv will be a big deal, you won't have time to watch it anyway. I am on a facebook page with the ones who just started in January and i follow their craziness, and I do mean craziness. They seem to eat, sleep, and breathe nursing school :)

You got that right, Simcr. I don't even have time for TV now but the rest of family will probably miss it!

It will mean a pretty big drop in household income if I don't work but I think there are little things we can do to cut back on expenses. I know some people may not have a choice when it comes to working while in school. All the power to them!

Welcome back Christy! I am so glad you are going for it again. See you next Monday in AP!

Love Corrina

Kaltenrieder, I have 2 kids in elementrary school and I cannot imagine working right now and this semester is lighter than last. Some people don't have a choice, but if you can swing it then it is best not too. That way there is less pressure on you. I spend as much time with my kids as I can when I am not at school. I have a dvr and last semester it was so full because I hardly ever had time to watch it and if I did, I fell asleep. I also suggest bringing your lunch to school. I do everyday, it saves time and money. Plus, you can study with each other at lunch.

Christy,

I hope your TEAS test went well! Don't give up!

Update: that test is hard, really wishing I would have done the online practice tests. I got A, B, C, C. With my 8 points to start with its only a total of 15, boo! Guess I'll go ahead and turn in application next week, anyways...Glad it's OVER for now. Except for I'm taking HESI for TCC next week, ugh.

@ Christy - the HESI is sooo much easier than the Teas V. Get the book though, because it is different. The math is pretty simple but you really have to memorize your conversion factors. Also, it has a vocab and general knowledge section. The gen knowledge is pretty much what it says and you can't study for it. The vocab is general but there are some words in the book that you will see on the test. Good luck, eat breakfast, relax and take your time.Oh and on the HESI it will give you your grade after each section, not all at the end.

Thank you formack. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. Congratulations on your accomplishments!

My friend just started the program this semester and she told me that she felt like she was drowning. She is just working one day a week and is single without kids. Her advice to me was the same as yours. When the time comes we will work something out as a family. My husband is very supportive.

Christy, so proud of you for going for it. That test is hard! Yuck. Good luck with HESI nextweek. Let us know what you think of it and what its like.

Corrina

Corrina,

I think the first semester is so hard because you are not used to trying to learn so much so fast. It does get easier though. I hope you all get in!
