how do you wear your hair when going to work as a cna

Published

For me my hair will be up 100% of the time because I can't work with my hair down it gets in my eyes its only shoulder length but still and the residents won't be able to pull easily. And also can anyone recommend a comfy shoe to work it obv. Has to be white

I usually wear it in a bun with all my loose pieces bobby-pinned all around. It looks ugly but 10 minutes into my shift I no longer care. I can't STAND any pieces of hair in my face at work. Having my bangs stuck to my forehead makes me irate!

A ponytail or a messy bun of sorts.

As for shoes, it's hard to recommend because everyone is so different. My current favorites are ANywear Zone clogs. They come in white. Super cushy, but they have more support than crocs and the like.

I have shoulder-length hair and use big barettes to tie it back -- elastic bands give me a major headache. And my favorite work shoes are made by AVIA. They're super comfortable slip-ons and my feet are never sore. Every other damn part of me is at the end of the day, but at least my feet aren't.

In a messy ponytail, and I dont wear makeup. Im there to work not to find a boyfriend or husband. Some of the CNA's I work with get up too early to do their hair and makeup nicely. Not me.

Haha. We have a few who wear a full face of makeup. Why??

I do wear some mascara (I have pale red-blonde eyelashes, they drive me nuts), and if I'm really wanting to feel festive, maybe a bit of shimmery eyeshadow or something. Mostly just because it makes me feel better/more presentable. The kids I take care of sure don't give a crap. :)

Related to this thread: I never wear my hair down at work. EVER. It is thick and boob length and a pain in the butt. Last night, though, I was fixing my ponytail and I broke my hair tie. I didn't have another on me and there were only a couple of hours of work left. I figured, no big deal.

Well, one of my residents decided to play in her poop, which she had never done before. And when I went in to clean her up, she decided to GRAB MY HAIR. Which she has also never done before.

:crying2:

Yeah, never going to work without at least 10 extra hair ties again.

I always wear mine pulled back too. I don't like it in my face, especially since I always get so sweaty when I'm giving a shower. Plus I have a couple of residents (dementia) that will grab and pull hair; if it's tied back it's harder for them to get a good handful.

Shoes I alternate between Merril slip-ons (cushy & nice), crocs (the closed waterproof kind) and a pair of New Balance running shoes. I try to never wear the same ones 2 days in a row and that seems to help my feet survive.

My hair is a little shorter than yours - chin length. It's too short to pull it all back in a pony, but I can do two tiny pigtails. I do that with a full-head elastic band that goes all the way around like a headband to catch the flyaways. Or I just use the elastic band without the baby pigtails. Or I use two pins/barettes to pin back the sides and don't worry about the back.

The most comfy + affordable work white shoe I've ever found are Sketcher's WORK series. They have a certified non-slip sole, run about $50-60, come in solid white, are comfy and last about a year of full-time work.

The one time I dared to wear makeup it lasted oh about 4 minutes into my shift. Now I am cool with just chapped stick and even then that's pushing it ;).

I have long hair that I wear tied into a knot.

I wear my hair in a pony tail or a loose bun. I want my hair grabbed by a patient or to get dirty. I loved my nursemates and danskos but they never seemed to last long I now wear athletic sneakers. I usually wear mascara and eyeliner. I use to wear foundation but it would melt off my face.

Normally I would wear mine in a bun or ponytail or side ponytail. From years of doing this tho I have major breakage esp around my forehead, which sucks because you then get those breakage flyaways. I found wearing it down, your hair can get into trouble with patients that cough, or if your giving a shower, or if your chewing gum, my hair somehow always found a way to get my mouth.

Best is keep away from your face.

As for shoes, I'm flat foot with no arch whatsoever. I enjoy any shoes that have no arch, crocs,or i wear my sneakers. Whatever is comfortable.

I love the bun. It's not only better for patient care, it's also better for your coworkers. You know rooms get crowded and there's nothing like getting whipped in the face by a close standing, quickly turning coworker with long unrestrained hair. I hate that.
