OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
Hmmmm... some things you don't already know about me...- I love to watch most sports. I am particularly fond of NFL football, college football, and college basketball. Last year I came in second place in a basketball pool for March Madness. My husband and neighbor get together to watch NASCAR on occasion, and I've actually watched it too the last several times. It's fun to see how excited everyone gets, even if I don't understand everything that they're doing.
- I recently learned how to knit. It's a great stress-reliever and an awesome motivator. I promise myself that if I do my reading for a certain period of time, then I can take a 20 minute knitting break to relax. Some simple stitches I can do while reading. Knitting is a great, portable craft - you can pull it out for a couple of minutes, or knit for hours.
- My dad's uncle is Clayton Moore (the original Lone Ranger), and I was named after Colleen Moore, a distant cousin, who was a famous silent film actress and owned the Fairy Castle that you can see on exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Don't I wish I had inherited that little gem!
- One more fun fact about my dad... In high school he dated Ann Margaret Olsen - who later went on to become the famous Hollywood actress Ann Margaret.
Ahhh...much more fun than mine!!! My life is boring, what can I say!!!
OHHHHH...SPEAKING OF BEING RELATED TO SOMEONE FAMOUS!!! How could I forget!!! My grandmother on my mom's side is "somehow" related to the royal family...which makes me royalty. I do believe my invitation to the royal wedding years and years ago was lost in the mail!!!
Hey, thanks to all of you who are letting us borrow the CPR books.
Two, things, huh, well, I guess the first one is I am an army brat and graduated and spent 4 years in Germany. As a result I joined the army reserves in 1992, I am no longer in but it was great fun.
Two, because it is the 4th, and my son Ryans 8th anniversary, that is the anniversary of his death. He was born with Hydrocephalus, nurses, look it up...He was born in 98 and passed on Jan 4th of 2000. He is my inspiration, in everything I do. He was a little angel here on earth now he is in no pain, in Heaven.
Didn't mean to be a downer, good things came from Ryan....

Well, I think I already shared one main thing about myself(which I just recently realized) which is that I am one of those people that need stress in my life. I complain about wanting some quiet time and then when i get it...I go NUTS!!
Also, since I have had 2 more people move in this week, I now have quite a zoo...6 cats, 1 dog, 1 lizard and a lop eared rabbit...and yes, I am one of those people that prefer animals over most people to share my home with.
:offtopic:On another topic...those of you that already have the modules....is AA the one we have to pass on math?? what kind of math is included? any dimensional analysis? Just trying to think ahead.
when i spoke to the 2nd semester student while at clc bookstore the other day, she mentioned that you get two tries to pass the dimensional analysis. however, she said you are not kicked out of the program if you don't pass...a couple in her class did not pass either time and they were given an alternative assignment. also, dimensional analysis is the only thing that is tested - not iv drip rates, etc. just conversion using the dimensional analysis method. hope this helps!

Oh Heather, I am so sorry to hear that. I bet he is your littel guardian angel, isn't he. Well, saying a prayer for you and him and keep up the good work you are doing with him watching over you!
maybe they've changed this?? i mean, why would they say it is required for nur171 if you won't use it until nur271? not that i'm doubting you, but i'm hoping they have changed something because i will be pretty p.o.'d if they told me a textbook was required, i bought it because they said to, and then they require a new edition by the time we finally get to it. wow, that would really tick me off!
i know that you're not doubting me but it was also mentioned by another student who's starting her 3rd semester to wait until orientation. the book list for last semester start was "all messed up" according to the director at orientation. people starting buying books right away and that list is for the whole program. there were mixed up editions on the list as well. many instructors said that this happens every semester with the books. as you may guess, the nursing field is changing constantly with medical/health updates so they change editions constantly. the good thing about this is that whatever edition you start with you'll use throughout the program. it was recommended to you by myself and the other student to wait until orientation to buy the books. also, i doubt that they are changing the curriculum for you guys to do med/surge 1st semester. this thread was started by someone who wanted advice, i'm guessing from anyone who has prior knowledge. i know that you're excited to start but there are quite a few flaws in the program. make notes because you have a huge questionaire to fill out about your experience in the program on the day of the final exam

kind of a good thing i wasn't able to get my books yet then, huh?
i do have one question, and it may seem silly and maybe i am missing something somewhere. a lot of you said you are starting the required reading and the part of the modules that will be assigned at orientation for us to complete prior to our first class...where did you get that info from? did i miss something somewhere? if you could let me know where they have that listed, that would be awesome...if not, i will just wait til after orientation monday...no biggie! thanks!
Very true, when you look at the list of required books you can see that they are for the first 3 semesters...I noticed this after reading on page 177 of the handbook that in 171 we are doing the basics and would not need books for med-surg , peds or psych for this semester.
Yes, I did notice that as well when I was reading through the handbook last night.
