OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
Heather & Colleen - I found my book. I'll bring it on Monday so you can use it. Just return it when ever we see each other again.
I didn't get the software yet, I'm hoping for today. I went with the Taber's because it seemed like most of the people who posted on the PDA forums liked it. I already have Mosby's Dictionary from a previous class, so I thought I'd get something different.
I feel like I am totally organized! I stopped at Staples today for a few last minute things. I got a magazine file to use as a book end and to store my nursing magazines. I also picked up some black pens, a pencil case, index cards and post-it notes. I cleaned my closet last night AND took down the tree. My hubby wanted to do the tree today, but I told him I was gonna start reading today. Poor fellow fell down the whole flight of stairs from our over-the-garage-attic! Luckily, no Christmas decorations were harmed!! Okay...no husbands were harmed either!:sasq:
So...what do you gals think about sharing one thing about you that we'd probably never know or find out about each other? I'll start - I have 2 major addictions. First, I am a magazine junkie. I subscribe to every kind of magazine you can think of - from Time to People to Nascar Illustrated to The Week to Nursing 2008 to Family Fun to VW. I read it all!!! Second, I am a huge NASCAR fan:bow:, BUT I am not a redneck! I watch the race every weekend without fail - it's a good time to re-write notes. We won't even mention the love I have form my 73 orange VW Thing!!
Hello everyone!! It's been awhile since I've signed on and i have to say....I had some catching up to do..lol I can't wait until Monday...I've figured out that the reason i have been having so many migraines and generally just "feeling down" is because I'm not at a high enough stress level...school will get me back into that. I think I am one of those people that need a certain amount of stress and chaos on a daily basis just to function. Sounds kind of sick but true. Good idea about meeting up at 8:30...i will see all of you then. I'm hoping to get my books on Tuesday or Wednesday if they are taking financial aid then. Well, I guess I better get some stuff done here...see you all on Monday!!
Oh Diedra...your poor hubby!!! Wow...and he didn't use that fall to his advantage? My hubby would have been down for a week!!! FOR SURE!!!
Oh, I am so looking forward to getting Monday over with, enjoying a nice beer with some friends , and getting my books next week. klf73241, my major stress right now is GETTING THOSE DARN BOOKS!!! Wish I could just get the Stafford loan for that, but I just checked into it today and it would take some time for it to go through and I'm not willing to wait as long as they say it will take weeks).
Oh boy...some things you wouldn't know about me??? Hmmmm....
I have lived in Lake County my entire life...and only in 2 cities my whole life.
I can burp BETTER than a sailor (:w00t: - mainly when drinking a pop fast or after many alcoholic beverages)
I am addicted to Starbucks Hot Chocolate with Creme D'Mint (sold here at work...speaking of which, it's about that time)
In my eyes, no one on the road can drive (except me, of course) and I yell at everyone...not an agressive driver, but I tend to go off on people when they don't do something I like...:innerconf...which is quite often...LOL
I secretly enjoy watching some of my daughters shows with her (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Einsteins are two of my faves, but my all-time faves are Jakers, the Adventures of Piggly Wink and Dragontales!) I'd like to think the reason is because I get to see her interact with it...not 100% sure on that though.
Alright, that was more than one, but hey, they're fun, right???
I took the CPR class in Dec. We did not need the book - we watched video & after each section, we had to practice w/ the dummies (dress prepared to sit on the floor). If you need clarification, ask as you go. Then we took a short test at the end. We only had 6 people in our class so we paired up & switched off and I think we got out 30-45 minutes early. I rec'd my card within a few days - wasn't even expecting it.
I went to Office Max today to look at that flexible binder & they did not have it.
Colleen, did you go into the office store in Gurnee? I'm hoping they have them, will go there Sunday. If not I think they have Staples in Vernon Hills, I have to go to DMV next week & the uniform store anyway.

Yes, I was at the Office Max in Gurnee (on Hunt Club Rd.) today. They had the Flex Notebinders there. Also, they have most of their regular binders on sale too. The Flex Notebinders were on an endcap facing the back of the store, and NOT by the binders (kind of in the middle). They had all kinds of colors too!
I found a clipboard thing I liked, and I bought it. The only problem is the only one they had was NEON ORANGE. I mean this thing is vividly bright! But it's cool because it has a calculator at the top, and opens up to store stuff. I'm hoping my steth will fit in there along with a notebook and extra pens, etc. It has a handle which is kind of cool because I figure it will make it easier to carry. Anyhow, it's just the color that's bugging me - I'm afraid it's too bright... Patients might have to wear their sunglasses when I come in the room!

There is an office max and office depot in Round Lake I believe.

I recently took the refresher course and the majority of that is just hands-on with the dummies.
The first class is a few things. It is video's as well as hands on, so that is why it is so much longer. At the end you will be tested on basic knowledge and then you'll get your certificate and you'll receive your card in the mail a couple weeks later. I would assume the Nursing department should have verification that you got your certification, but if not, I'd bring what they give you after class just in case...unless you get your certification card in the mail before classes start.
It's a long class, but it went by quick I thought and we did get out early as well. We didn't really even use the book when I went.
