OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
I just got a heavy duty reference 3 ring binder- It it tough enough for lots of use but also has pockets on the inside. I also bought dividers with pockets for in between each individual module.
I only had to buy 4 of these binders this way, they can be pricey, so to have to only buy 4 for now was nice.
Good luck, I love going to walmart,I always leave with more than I wanted

I put mine in binders yesterday as well.
I have one binder for each of the following:
So, I have six binders total. The Misc. Module Info (anything before Module A), and Module D, I used 1" binders. The rest are 2". Just figured I'd allow some room.
I'm also going to make tabs as well. Make it easier to find!
Ok, so reading from the text books is required before class starts to complete the module they will assign? I am PRAYING that my husband can get the money very soon...he was saying he's hoping to have it by Friday, but we'll see!
And I have to say I am having anxiety issues. My daughter has been less cooperative than usual. I think my BP is going to skyrocket if it hasn't already!! I am hoping it was only because I had been off for 2 1/2 weeks and praying that now that she is in school again that she'll go back to her ol' self and that this is NOT the terrible two's!!! All I can say is I keep thinking if this is how she is going to be, I will not be able to study if I am taking care of her at times!!! :uhoh21: It just makes me want to cry!!!

I got four 1 1/2 inch binders in one color with the clear cover that you can slide in a label. The ones I got from Staples are by Avery and avery.com has templates that you can use to label. I split the binders as follows:
#1 - critical elements, PE packet, A Modules
#2 - B Mods
#3 - C Mods
#4 - D Mods
The reason I got all the same size was that I plan on adding any notes, hand outs, etc in each binder and this leaves me some play room.
I also got a Five Star Flex Hybrid NoteBinder. I plan on keeping the Module we are on and maybe the next two or three in there. So, I'll be rotating them around. Reason? I'm not real big into having a 3-ring binder taking up all that space. With this binder you can open it and flip the cover over like a spiral notebook. I also plan on taking any notes on loose leaf paper then filing with the module.
Lori - I understand and feel for you on the anxiety! My kids are past that (9 and 18).
Last night I lined all my books up on my dresser (no other place for them) and told my hubby that it felt all "official" now that I have the books. Crazy thing is that feeling all "official" makes me wanna poop my pants! I know, I know - we've come so far and we can do it and all that, but ugh...I'm scared!!!
I went out and bought a pair of pants and shoes and a clip board case thingy today. Still looking for the watch - I'm kinda picky. I don't want plain old white - I'd like something with just a bit of personality. What else are you guys getting?
OK, so even though I am only about 3/4 of the way through the handbook, and haven't even looked at the modules yet - today I drove over to the bookstore because my daughter was there to help me.
Holy Cow!!!! I cannot believe the number of books, and my daughter took one look at the Brunner & Suddarth's Med Surg book and promptly said "Wow Mom, I feel bad for you!" This coming from the girl who is a sophomore at U of I, and has had her own fair share of gigantic textbooks. Just to let you know, I was able to get the Med Surg book used - they only had a few - but I really think they were mislabeled. The used books looked exactly the same as the new - just beautiful!
I can totally relate Diedra. I have them spread out on my dining room table at the moment, waiting to show my hubby. Looks impressive, but SOOOO intimidating. And I didn't even get them all yet! I got the bundle and the Med Surg (because they had it used). I'm going to check for the Contemporary Maternal-Newborn book online to see if I can get it cheaper. I think I'll wait for the optional books until after Orientation. I figure I'll get a better idea then if we'll need them or not.
I'm off to Office Max tomorrow to get my binders and so forth. Tomorrow is organization day here. I realized the other day when paying bills that I still have folders from 2004 for all our bills in the file cabinet. Time to purge for the new year. Now I have to get my office organized with all my beautiful new books and get ready to start!!!
How about if we meet up by the Something's Brewing cart around 8:30 on Monday. This way we can get to know each other, grab a cup of coffee and chat a bit before we find a good seat!

Diedra, that's the same one I bought last semester. I LOVED it, and it held up very well. It's very convenient because you can add and remove stuff very easily, but because you can flip the cover around to the back it's not as bulky as a 3 ring binder.

Yes, I already put a title page in the front sleeve of my binders...looks great!
Tonight is going a little better with my daughter...I am really hoping it was just the schedule change...so I am a bit less stressed!
books...still don't have them. I wish I had a credit card for the time being til my hubby gets the money, but I SHOULD have the money next Thursday at the latest I think.
I still need to get my scrubs (both tops and bottoms), shoes, watch, and whatever things we'll need for clinicals (such as a stethescope and such). Oh, and as mentioned above, my books!

you don't need the med/surge book until 3rd semester and by then they'll probably be using a newer edition. it's hard to find the required texts used because editions are changing constantly and people don't sell theirs back because they use them throughout the program.

Yes, Something's Brewing is the cart by the library. What time do you guys think?
Bill's Pub sounds good to me. I'm with Lori though - I'll only have one! Otherwise someone will have to drive me home.
I started looking through the books and started reading some of the required reading for Modula A1. Ugh! Am I ready for this?
