OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
I habe a digital one. I've never downloaded onto the computer, so I can't tell you much about it. I know mine is supposed to be able to download to a computer and also save itself as a Word doc. It can also be MP3 compatable, so you could listen to it on your iPod. I recorded all of A&P, but didn't listen to it much - only when I had trouble understanding something - like endochondral ossification!!
Me again.
I absolutely love this board and check out alot of threads that I probably have no business looking at because I tend to get a little freaked out by the terminology that I don't know.:uhoh21: I guess I start feeling like it is just going to be too much.
I keep telling myself that at some point, everybody knew nothing about healthcare. Whether it was before paramedic training or whatever. I start wondering if I will recall enough of the A & P class that I just finished 3 wks ago, much less Micro. from earlier in the year.
Does anybody else go thru this? I'm not trying to be a downer here. I'm just hoping that I am normal.

happy new year everybody!need advice. digital or tape kind of voice recorder. please give input as to pros/cons of each. i am not that experienced when it comes to technology stuff so i was convinced at first that i'd go w/ tape kind.
i thought it might be nice to be able to carry the tapes with me or grab one particular one. i'm not sure that the voice quality will compare with the digital ones though. it would be more hassle dealing w/tapes.
the digital ones have folders and ways to "mark" sections that i'm sure i could figure out relatively easily with the help of my kids. they hold up to 130-150 hrs. (before you have to download i guess).
soooo, if i download the stuff, how do i retrieve it again? do i just have to be at a computer to listen to it? if i need it to be portable, i just "reload" it onto the recorder?
thanks for any input.
if you don't mind my asking, why do you need a voice recorder?

Absolutely!!! I have my "downer" moments too. But I agree with what Diedra said - look what you've done already!!!
As far as the voice recorder goes, I know Patrick (the fidgety guy who sat next to me) used one and he said it was helpful. But he was the type of guy who could benefit a lot from recordings - he had a tough time paying attention in class I think, so it would've been helpful to have the lecture recorded so he could refer back to it. Personally I've never felt the need to have one - I think I take pretty thorough notes, and I'm not afraid to ask the instructor to repeat something if I didn't get it. I'm not sure I could handle one more piece of technology - I haven't even opened my Palm T/X yet!!! Maybe I'll have some time on Wednesday.
And Diedra - I think your post should've been deleted by the moderators for use of foul language -- endochondral ossification is a major swear word in my book!!! ;-)

there really is no lecture so if you don't have one already you may want to save your money. the "lecture" class is for test taking, getting handouts passed out to you, and group discussion of scenarios pertaining to the modules (class guides). the only "lecture" is the teacher reading the power point to you that is at the back of your modules.
I definitely have many moments when I doubt I can do this.
I grew up having a father who pretty much did and said everything to make me think and feel stupid, so it showed as I grew up (in my school work I mean). He told me I couldn't do it, so I didn't. NOW, looking back, I COULD have done better and I should not have let him do that to me.
So, I can say yes that I doubt myself every day, but I am also determined to make this happen...maybe partially to prove to him that I am not stupid, as he seemed to want me to be.
My biggest issue(s) are work and family! So, I just need to figure out what works best for me. I know I can get it done as far as academics go...it's finding the time to actually do it that causes an issue!
We will be FINE!!! We will all figure out quickly what works best for us and go with it...we've come this far (me, 3 1/2 years of school already and done with all my pre-req's), we are determined and will make it happen!
I do have a digital recorder...bought it when I was pregnant with my daughter so I could record her heartbeat, but other than that, I have never used it. If I feel I need it, maybe I'll bring it, but from the sounds of it (from what clcstudent said), we won't need it...I know this class is mainly self taught as far as the reading and such goes.
Happy 2008 everyone!!! Only a few more days til Orientation - wow, did that come up quick or what???
So, how are we going to meet up when we get there? I know most of you have already met, but I have not met anyone yet.
I bought the voice recorder cuz I found it at such a deal that I could'nt pass it up. I would have been fine in A&P without it, but had it, so used it. The only other thing I have used it for is recording a few things I needed to remember, then I would listen while lounging in the bath.
Colleen - sorry about the use of my profanity!! It's a word that causes an instant headache!
Are we still planning on trying to go out after orientation? Where to? Starbucks?
Anyone going to CLC tomorrow to purchase the "bundle"?
Hi all!!
I will be at CLC tomorrow to purchase the "bundle" probably after 12 though, I have to take my mom to an appointment tomorrow morning.
I have only met Colleen, I cannot wait to put faces with names, or usernames, some of you I only know by username. I have been sick the last week or so, so time has really flown by for me.
About the discussion about doubting ourselves. I think we all go through the scary stage, when we start something new and big...this is big ladies, we are really going to learn to have peoples health and well being in our hands. We all have proven, though, through our really high NLN scores that we all deserve to be here. And whatever people say about us personally, we earned our spots, and it wasn't easy, and those people who say you are "stupid" can eat their words.....You all should be so proud of yourselves, I am proud of myself, even when I doubt myself. If we all just help each other and put all of the petty crap that can happen behind us we will be ok....
I cannot wait to meet all of you really smart ladies.
Heather
Not sure when I am getting my books...ugh!!! I need to talk to husband about it...and I figured I'd wait til after orientation to find out what we need right now...I assume the bundle is needed for this first semester? I'll have to jump on right now to see how much it is and talk to my husband about it and get at least that before the "post orientation rush".
Also, anyone know where the room is at for Orientation? Never heard of it! Maybe we can say we'll meet in the back row of the Orientation room or something...I'll just carry around a sign that says "allnurses sit here".
