We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

Published

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

well, since we both have to wait to get our books, at least we will have a definite list and not end up with books to store for next semester:smilecoffeeIlovecof

Right...I can't spend anything more than what I have to right now between tuition and the book bundle and titres/immunizations out of pocket...that's enough for right now!!! Down the road I'll get what is necessary!

Just thankful I am getting this done without loans (as hard as it may be)....more money for ME when I graduate rather than having to fork out the money to pay the government back! :w00t:

I'm not too worried about the books yet..I know we'll find out what we need on Monday. I'm worried about all the extra supplies..as I read what some of you have already put together I realize that I will stick out like a sore thumb...I decided to go minimal for now because of budget constraints and because I am so cheap that buying the palm t/x was a big deal for me...still haven't figured the thing out yet:smackingf I even decided to try to use my son's rolling backpack that he used 1 time...if it works that's great, otherwise I'll use it until it doesn't work. I think on Monday I will have a better idea of what I need and what I really can do without...I hope:no:

how much are the bundles?

I don't think it's is required reading, just curiosity reading ;) that some people are doing. If you look in that first section of the modules, where the calender is - it does say that we will have some type of activities to do (after orientation) & I think the first module (A1) to be prepared for our first class. Depends on what day your classes start & your section maybe because I don't think it has PM sections on the calender-maybe they pass that out at orientation or maybe I just missed it.

I have not even finished the handbook yet.

The Bundle, New (which it is only available new) is roughly $635!!

Ok, that I did see! There is a calendar for the PM class (after the calendar for the AM class). Alright...I just thought I was missing something somewhere!!! Thanks! And by no means have I finished the handbook either...I have been skimming through it, but figured that is a big portion of what we'll be going through on Monday!

Hey Kelli,

The bundles were $635 + tax.

I only bought the other books (med/surg, study guide for it & maternal/newborn) because my son was there to carry it all. If we don't need those I might return them or I'll ask what the chances are that we will need different editions.

I had been wondering where you were. See ya Monday.

Vicki

Remember your $30 for drug screening everybody.

I've been a little busy..my son and his g/f lost the baby right after Christmas...very sad but maybe for the best. Then 2 days later her family kicked them out..so, they had to move in with us..I have been formulating my rules for this unconventional situation mostly to prepare them for getting their own place and being alot more responsible about sex...guess I'm getting that stress level back up to normal for myself..lol

Does anyone know if the $30 is cash only or if you can pay by cc?

Kelly, wow there is never a dull moment for you, is there? It is very sad for them that they lost the baby, but as you said it is probably for the best. I hope you're able to convince them to be more responsible going forward. They need to get their lives on track before they bring another one along. Good luck!!! (How are the other 2 handling having a girl in the house?!?)

i know that you're not doubting me but it was also mentioned by another student who's starting her 3rd semester to wait until orientation. the book list for last semester start was "all messed up" according to the director at orientation. people starting buying books right away and that list is for the whole program. there were mixed up editions on the list as well. many instructors said that this happens every semester with the books. as you may guess, the nursing field is changing constantly with medical/health updates so they change editions constantly. the good thing about this is that whatever edition you start with you'll use throughout the program. it was recommended to you by myself and the other student to wait until orientation to buy the books. also, i doubt that they are changing the curriculum for you guys to do med/surge 1st semester. this thread was started by someone who wanted advice, i'm guessing from anyone who has prior knowledge. i know that you're excited to start but there are quite a few flaws in the program. make notes because you have a huge questionaire to fill out about your experience in the program on the day of the final exam

so sorry if it seemed like i was doubting you. i was going by what the paperwork said, and didn't read all the way back on all of the postings regarding the books. be that as it may, my main concern isn't having laid out the money for the book i won't need yet, but really the fact that you said the edition would change by the time we needed it. i thought you were saying we'd be required to buy a newer edition. thanks for clarifying this. i'm sure i'll find the book useful anyhow!
