So school starts in just over a week. I'm so excited/ anxious. Just wondering what my fellow wcccd future nurses are doing to prepare. I still need to get some white tees. White socks so I have more that I can easily match, and some black pens stuff like that. going to order my clinical uniform off the internet I think. My very first class on tuesday is skills lab, so I also want opinions on what to bring to the first class. Thanks Much. Good luck to everyone
Yea I Think Im going to go there what classes do i have to take be for applying to the program ? and which order should i take them in ?
Before you can apply for the program, you have to take Intro Bio (Bio 155), Anatomy & Physiology I (Bio 240), Anat/Phys II (Bio 250), Microbiology (Bio 295), English I (Eng 119), and Intro Psychology (Psy 101). You have to take Bio 155 before you can take Bio 240, and 240 before 250. I took 155, then 240, then 250 and 295 together, with the Eng and Psych in my first semesters. There are also several co-reqs (classes you have to take before you can graduate, but which you may take while already in the program), and most nursing students will highly recommend that you take as many co-reqs before getting into the program as possible.
Thanks !! but i just looked on the website and i didnt see bio 155 as a requirement !
Yep, that's the "hidden" pre-req. You do have to take it because you can't register for/take Bio 240 without first taking 155. If you look in the catalog (not the schedule book), you'll see Bio 155 as the pre-req for Bio 240. It would make sense for them to put 155 as a pre-req for the program the book, but maybe that's why they don't do it.

I'd be happy to! Unfortunately, I can't do so in this thread (against forum rules), but if you look in my profile under "Contact Info," you can send an email to my MSN email and I'll reply with some recommendations, any info I have, etc. I had some fantastic instructors for my pre- and co-reqs, and I'm always happy to pass on the recs.
It frustrates me so the lengths that we have to go through to get into a lot of the programs in Michigan. I have looked at programs outside of Michigan where the classes that we are required to take in the program are actually built into theirs. You pretty much just have to take the basics like Eng and maybe a Med Term class to be considered. Maybe I am just getting frustrated because I am still 3 classes away from being able to apply for the program.(Although I have completed all the other nursing classes aside from the actual NURS courses) I am taking AP1 this summer and AP2 in the fall. I have to find a place to fit in Microbiology if I want to be able to apply for Fall 2011. I am just so frustrated right now!
doswald1 WOW!... well I hope no one lets that negativity discourge them from going to or finishing at WCCCD yea the school can throw u through twist at times but nothing is easy. If u put in work u will pass, thats that no matter if its from WCCCD or Michigan state and regardless if it is NLN or not we will all sit for the same boards and get that same license as any other RN! I doubt 99% of us plan on working in the peace corps or watever crap mentioned... Whatever happened in 2005 is irrelevant in 2010.. By the way i'm going into my second semster and really enjoyed and passed my 1st :)
