WCCCD Spring 2010 starting soon

Published

So school starts in just over a week. I'm so excited/ anxious. Just wondering what my fellow wcccd future nurses are doing to prepare. I still need to get some white tees. White socks so I have more that I can easily match, and some black pens stuff like that. going to order my clinical uniform off the internet I think. My very first class on tuesday is skills lab, so I also want opinions on what to bring to the first class. Thanks Much. Good luck to everyone

By the way i'm going into my second semster and really enjoyed and passed my 1st :)

Glad you enjoyed the first semester Tiffie. According to the program from the pinning ceremony last Friday, about 90 of us are graduating this spring.

Congrats! Yeah, many of us made it a couple semesters into the program. But yeah, I just mentioned peace corps and others places of work because I know a great many people, including myself, like to shoot for the stars instead of simply becoming a stale floor nurse for the rest of our lives. I've helped at least 50 people avoid Wayne County verbally, and seeing these forums, I figured it would be nice to help those who are thinking about going there, not necessarily the ones who are already in the program. I can't, and wouldn't dream of telling someone simply to STOP going there.

I've learned the hard way in my life that people have to make their own mistakes and THEN learn from them (well, hopefully), because no matter what you say, they won't listen until it's too late.

My experience with WCCCD (and not just with nursing, either) was SOOO incredibly horrible, along with at least 50 of my other classmates', that if I can help just one person on this board, I will be happy. If it doesn't apply to you, kindly skim over it and read the next post.

Best of luck to you!

Well thats good it makes u so happy to "warn" people about WCCCD I guess. But me including the 90 students who just graduated have many other options than being just a stale floor nurse. Last time I checked ( because I've too like you did some research) my Nursing credits will transfer to a 4yr university which will earn me my BSN and we too can "shoot for the stars" with a MSN and even a doctorate. Yea people learn from there own mistakes, so its good to hear the "good" and "bad" of any situation so just thought I'd share my opinion because were all entitled to one.. Best of luck to u also

Yes, there are! You can't always go by the composites for each graduating class either, because there are about 12 people in our class who didn't get their picture taken. congratulations on graduating! I can't believe we are done! =]

Doswald1, did you say that you started in spring 2006? I know a lot of people who started that semester and graduated in Dec 2007 or May 2008. They are doing phenomenal in OB, ICU and some are even clinical coordinators with just their ADN from WCCCD! You obviously have some bitter feelings for WCCCD and although I have not walked in your shoes, I can understand your feelings to a point. Based on your comments on here, I have concluded that you blame the nursing program and the instructors for you quitting, failing, not being successful in the program or whatever. Do you take any responsibility in this for yourself at all? I mean you claim there are 50 people who started with you in Spring 2006 that had the same experience as you, when I can name 50 people who started that same semester that was successful.

Since you were there, they have made some improvements and out of 120 students we are graduating 90 this semester! I would say that is more than 20% retention. Last year their NCLEX Passing rate was 93% of all students who took the NCLEX passed on their first try. I suspect it will be higher this year =].

It's been how many years since you left WCCCD....Maybe it's time to move on and focus on something more positive in your life instead of harboring all of these ill feelings toward a school that really doesn't care whether you like them or not. Sorry, but it's the truth!

Hope you find your way...

For what it's worth, while doswald1 is commenting on NLN accredidation, the school that she graduated from (Michigan State) is not NLN accredited either. NLN accredidation is expensive and is optional, most small community colleges who have this pass the costs of becoming accredited on to their students as higher course fees for nursing classes.

Generally, I think at the university level it would be CCNE accreditation (sp?). That said, I don't know if MSU is that either.
