WCCCD Spring 2010 starting soon

U.S.A. Michigan

So school starts in just over a week. I'm so excited/ anxious. Just wondering what my fellow wcccd future nurses are doing to prepare. I still need to get some white tees. White socks so I have more that I can easily match, and some black pens stuff like that. going to order my clinical uniform off the internet I think. My very first class on tuesday is skills lab, so I also want opinions on what to bring to the first class. Thanks Much. Good luck to everyone

Go by the pod sheet, not webgate. That's what they told me at the nursing office, anyway. For example, those of us in pods 9-12 all have 110 together, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3-5pm at Western. Pods 1-4 have 110 T/R 3-5pm, and 5-8 have 110 T/R 9am-11am. :D

Thanks for the info that is extremely helpful. Good thing I didnt assume webgate was right and miss my first day of 110. I would have had a heart attack.

And the first three chapters are extremely boring!!!!!!!!

Anyone else in pods 5-8... I'm in pod 8

Pod 11 here! Won't we have Saturdays together too? That's cool.

Just some advice from another "tall" - the first white pants I ordered from Allheart (cherokee, elastic waist) were GI-NORMOUS (even though I went by the size chart), so I returned those for a smaller pair. They are really high-waisted, and although the waist band fit, the rest of the pants (hips, thigh) were big enough for two of me. Felt like I was wearing clown pants... The material is nice though. If you wear a medium, you can have mine! Really, I'll never wear them again.

The tops from Allheart fit great (after I returned the first one for the next smaller size...) no trouble with the returns - customer service was great with them.

Life uniform (I went to the one in Southgate) carries tall scrub pants in white - I found some I love last year. And, I got to try them on first... I don't know if they carry the tops...

Thanks for the great info!!! I do intend on ordering them from Allheart! LOL!

That is very kind of you to offer, but unfortunately I am quite... uh... 'hippy'. I would need at least an XL, and that's even if they run big. :p

I was wondering if the white scrubs could pass as white 'uniform' pants, because I like those better, and they don't seem as frumpy (high waisted). Oh, and good to know that Life Uniform carrys talls in the stores (for scrubs) because sometimes I get so sick of having to order everything online.

I had to order my sweat pants online to get talls (womens are waaay too short, and mens are long enough, but the crotch hangs down to my knees), and I paid $50 w/shipping for two pairs of sweat pants! URGH! :uhoh3:

Possibly? :lol2: I'm in pod 12; we have classes at the same times, but I'm not sure if they're together or not. It'd be awesome if we did, though!

One week to go! 355370c6kub34iju.gif

By the bye (and I hope we're allowed to do this?), is anyone else on Facebook? I'm over here.

Just how picky are they about the pants? I found the tops that I want but not pants.

And has anyone gotten their ace passport emails yet?

Less than a week to go!

What do you mean by "picky?" Insofar as I've heard from students that started before me/us, they're kind of sticklers when it comes to the "no designs" and "must be sweat pants" bit. As long as they're solid and obviously sweats (not, say, track pants/runners or jeans, etc), you should be fine.

I haven't gotten my Ace thing, and I was starting to worry that others had! Maybe they're just a little behind? Didn't they say it's a new thing? Hmm.

Can't. Wait!

If you all are asking about the white pants for clinical... I wear draw string waisted pants, but no one can see the waistband/draw string...

That is what i was wondering... Thanks

I bought the clinical outfit from discount uniform today and I'm an inbetween medium and large so obviously I went big... but its so boxy feeling I dont like it at all. So I might return the pants and find something that fits better

Oh by the way.... My classes got changed on webgate to match the pod sheet so anyone else with that problem check webgate and its probably fixed

Oof. Mine are still a little out of whack. I'm in pod 12, so I have 110 T/R 3-5pm, 111 R/F 8am-2pm, and 118 Sa 8am-12pm. In webgate, the times for 111 and 118 are fine, but 110 is still M/R 3-5pm. All of us in Western pods/pods 9-12 have 110 together, though, so I'm not even worried about that: I doubt that for some reason, I am a special snowflake and have 110 on M/R instead of T/R. :lol2:

How's the reading going for you guys? Thank goodness for weekends, because I'll have to catch up on said reading this weekend! XD

Congrats to all of you future nurses! I'm applying next month and I have yet to attain my recommendation letters. I'm not quite sure as to what It should say. There wasn't much info given at the information meeting. I welcome your input.

Thank you, and good luck!

I had my employer write one of the letters, and a friend who is an RN write the other.

My employer wrote about my work accomplishments, ethics, abilities, and gave a recommendation mostly based on previous work performance. I really think my employer went above and beyond with my letter, and I was quite pleased with it. :D

My friend kind of wrote more about me on a personal level; how I am able to successfully juggle being a 'single' mom, working full-time, and going to school. That I am outgoing and caring, and that she sees qualities in me that would make a good nurse, and that she'd be priviledged to have me work by her side one day. LOL! Kind of dorky -- but hey, I got in the first time I applied! :yeah:
