They are saying we need a watch with a "sweeping second hand" for our clinicals. What is sweeping second hand? Anyone know?

if any one knows were to find a real, genuine SWEEP second hand, that is the sort that moes smothly in continuos motion, not the second by second variety, i would be most pleased to know.....and i assume that is the sort that the OP is looking for as well.....hard to find

I haven't seen a sweep second hand in a long time...ok..scratch that, I did recently, it was a Rolex! I too, have been looking for a sweeping second hand, that tick, tick, tick, of the second hand drives me crazy.

I believe all rolex watches have the smooth sweep movement of the second hand...pretty sweet if you have the cash.
I think omega watches also sweep but you are looking at thousands of dollars for those too...good luck with your search.

I appreciate everyone's input. I am starting to get the idea! I have done research and couldn't find anything. At least I know it isn't just me.
the last one i had is atsp the bottom of Lake Winnipasoki (sp) in nh
so indeed they were made.....i suspicion the jerky ones are cheaper to make......

Last week, I received notification that I got accepted into nursing school - seriously, a dream come true. As I read the handbook, I was left with several questions that I felt stupid calling the department and asking. One clarificaiton deals with a simple watch that I need to purchase. I will quote my university's nursing handbook: "Students need to have a watch with a sweep second hand..." Two questions: 1) What is a "watch with a sweep second hand?" ; and 2) Does anyone know where I can get one - either online or not? I have had the most difficult time searching for one. Also, it would help if you can point me to one that is inexpensive. I'm pretty tight with money at the moment. Your help is greatly appreciated. :)

That would be a traditional (or "old fashioned, if you will) watch with the hour hand, minute hand, and second hand on a circular dial consisting of 12 hours, 60 minutes/seconds......as opposed to a watch with a digital readout. Our school required them (sweep hand) as well....our employer just wants us to wear any watch - digital readout seems ok by them

At first I thought you meant a sweet watch ha ha. This is what I got for a sweep second hand though
n.
A long hand on a clock or watch that measures seconds by moving the space of a minute for each second. Also called sweep hand.
So basically anything non digital. So just go to walmart and buy something cheap. I LOVE watches and have quite a few but will never ever wear a nice one to clinicals.
a sweep second hand to me, is one that literally "sweeps" around the face of the watch....in continuous movement, not stopping at each minute mark....and apparently no longer common in the lower price level.
though you might check out wind up timexs
