Hi everybody,
Im sure this is a frequently asked question...but does anyone know how long it takes to get registered in the states approximately? And does anyone know which is the easiest state to proceed through?
And if there anyone out there studying for nclex who would like to catch up in the future let me know :)

Each state is different and does require you to have some theory and clinical hours on your transcripts in Paeds, Mental health, Obstetrics and general Adult. Depending on which state you apply to will vary on length of time it takes but on average looking at 4-6 months. There really isn't a easy state anymore and even if you go to one state if you plan on working in another you may still have to meet their requirements for license and that will cost more money. Usually better to go direct to the state you plan on working in, only exception at the moment is CA as they are no longer accepting applications if you do not have a US SSN
Then you have to decide which visa you are applying for which will allow you to work in the US, if immigrant (GC) then you are looking currently at a few years wait, if E3 then you need to meet requirements and find employer. Ghillbert has done this route and can probably explain it better, try looking for their posts.
For the love of pete... WHY do you want to come here if you live in australia??? I'm thinking of moving THERE when I get my degree!!!
Amusing how people are moving around to nurse the world
So many, many threads to go from here to there, then sometimes back, how different it is, how homesick one is but who cares. Keeps our world a very interesting place to live in. The possibilities of nursing are both endless and exciting:redbeathe
how did you go about doing maternity? would i have to do the full year course that you do in ausie or nz? im wondering whether my time on the infant/toddler ward would be enough but very much doubt it. I did do maternity through uni during my course but the practicle was to follow a mother and go to her appointment etc so i dont think that wouldve been enough hours!

I did an external obstetrics course through New Zealand (Otago polytech) cost around $800. Its a workbook and they require an 80 hour practical which you have to organize yourself. They credited me the practical though as i had enough hours from uni (just not enough theory).
The workbook was simple..............a little time consuming................but better than doing a year at uni!!! I did it in 3 months, took it to work on night duty and just did a little each time!

Depends on where you are, probably easier to find if you're in a major metropolitan area. I know I've seen it at Cost Plus World Market; try one of those or something similar.
