how did you go about doing maternity? would i have to do the full year course that you do in ausie or nz? im wondering whether my time on the infant/toddler ward would be enough but very much doubt it. I did do maternity through uni during my course but the practicle was to follow a mother and go to her appointment etc so i dont think that wouldve been enough hours!

Outback nursing suitable for inexperienced nurse?
google kalgoorlie hospital and go on the website and look for the contact details for nursing manager susan hogan and email her directly. She is very helpful. I think they might take mid year intakes. I enjoyed my time out there, def not where I would want to live forever but had fun as the town is made up of a lot of people who are there for a short time which means everyone is friendly. They should pay for flights and if you are serious about going then make sure she arranges acomadation for you preferably a one bedroom place. If you are a new grad you prob cant demand anythng but if i was experienced i would not go unless she assured me a one bedroom place. I went after having 2 years experience in sydney. the learning is very different and the doctors have time to explain things. Most days are slow but you do get very busy when it fulls up! sorry cant private message for some reason it wont let me...maybe because i dont pay to be a member

wanting to work in america
Wow thats intense. In 5 years I want to be back around this side of the world. I have 2 years of paediatric experience, trained in new zealand, worked in Australia and do not have any ties to America except friends who I have met while travelling. Sounds like Id be better going over and working as a nanny...although I would much prefer to work as a nurse I'm not willing to wait 5 years though!

Thinking of moving to Australia-
I haven't worked in the UK but have worked with many nurses from the UK who all agree with the first post about better working conditions and lower patient to nurse ratios in australia. A lot of UK nurses end up wanting to stay in Australia but then I have met a few who have become homesick and gone back to the UK. If you are interested in moving you can often contact the hospital you would like to work at and they can send you information about the area and the hospital. I worked in Sydney at Sydney Childrens which also has an adult hosptial maternity hospital and mental health facilities attached, so if you want information on Sydney just let me know :) o and it is best to negotiate holiday time before you start as often the holidays can be booked out for a year or longer.

Outback nursing suitable for inexperienced nurse?
Hey I was interested in doing rural but didnt feel i had enough experience to be working alone....so i went to kalgoorlie for a short term which is in between as they have a hospital and there was always one other nurse on...so thats an option..they take new grads straight from uni

Hi everybody, Im sure this is a frequently asked question...but does anyone know how long it takes to get registered in the states approximately? And does anyone know which is the easiest state to proceed through? And if there anyone out there studying for nclex who would like to catch up in the future let me know :) Amy
