Go Army!

Specializes in Emergency RN, CEN.
No doubt. I just feel like I could have been commissioned a long time ago if she had just stayed in contact with me...its sad really. I dont go looking for trouble but I have NO problem lighting fires under people to get things moving in the right direction. She has sent my packet for a 'pre-review' and it looks like a sure thing for January...

Good luck... keep us posted.

Specializes in Cardiac Tele, Cath Lab, ICU, ICUSD.

Will do..if I get in, EVERYONE will know..hahahhaa.

I just passed my TNCC course!

3 days of my weekend, GONE. ugh.

See my blog on my profile for more info about TNCC.

I'm done with Nursing Track on Friday... Can't wait!

Specializes in Neuro, Surgical, Trauma and ICU..

I thought these recruiters get bonus when we commission. If so I would think they want there money. :coollook: I also remember when my recruiter has some kind of monthly meeting with her boss she is always trying to make sure I'm at a different step then the previous month. I would think all of them have some kind of monthly meeting to report on all the applications. ???

That is crazy hurry up and wait!!!

Ive actually been ready for boards since November...I have had the thought that my recruiter keeps pushing me back for some reason so that she will have someone going to boards every month. When I went to MEPS for my physical, there were three nurses going through..Im sure the other two have already been boarded by now. It also occured to me that since I am so motivated, my recruiter thought it would be okay to keep pushing me back because I am a sure thing. If something doesnt happen in January, I am going to go to a different recruiter. Im sick of the run around.

thanks for the pics ! I really enjoyed them.... I'll be at OBLC in April 09 !!! Hoorah !

Thanks so much for all the tips and pics! I am hopefully going in March. Waiting for orders. A few questions:

1. Were you housed off post? I hear we have to share rooms is that right?

2. Do most people use the Camelbak? Necessary?

3. What's with so many wearing sunglasses? Are they prescription?

4. What did you feel was the hardest part?

5. Anybody not make it?

6. What kind of problems did people have with their vehicles needing to be put in shop?

Any other tips you can share would be great!

Answers to your questions:

1. Were you housed off post? I hear we have to share rooms is that right?

- FSH is undergoing A LOT of changes. Our CO told us that the OBLC class after Jan will be housed off post due to construction on post. Classes would be off post as well.

- I had a roommate at Army Lodging. The facilities were meh. We had various problems with the heater, lighting, locker, and plumbing. Maintainance came in promptly to fix any problems I had.

2. Do most people use the Camelbak? Necessary?

- Pros and cons of camelbak

pros: instant water source, place to store MRE food, extra pockets

cons: still have to carry canteens on LBE, extra weight, more stuff to carry

- I personally didn't use a camelbak. I recommend if you use canteens you buy them at the military clothing and sales (really cheap) and don't use the ones that are issued to you at CIF.

3. What's with so many wearing sunglasses? Are they prescription?

- It's sunny! Everyone who wasn't issued balistic glasses were given a pair. They had interchangable lenses: clear and shaded.

- Some people had prescription glasses.

4. What did you feel was the hardest part?

- Dealing with people. Lots of different personalities. Sometimes it's better to suck it up and drive on.

- Also a lot of people took things personally. You can't take things personally in the military. If you do, you're in the wrong job.

5. Anybody not make it?

- Not that I know of. The most event that I saw people fail at was the APFT. However even after the retake there other opportunities to retake a record APFT. For direct commissionees you have an extended amount of time after OBLC to pass your APFT with your unit if you fail at OBLC. There is a remedial program that seemed to help many people pass on the 2nd attempt.

6. What kind of problems did people have with their vehicles needing to be put in shop?

- I didn't know too many people who had serious problems with their POVs. Most things were change oil, timing belt; usual maintaince shtuff.

Feel free to ask me any more questions. I will do my best to answer them based on my experience at OBLC.

Also for a more indepth detailed description of my experience see my blog link posted on my profile.

All the best to you in March!

Thanks for the quick response! Lots more questions, but mind is a blank at the moment.

Thanks again!

you're welcome. =)

SUNURSALA:

You sound a little nervous about the whole OBLC thing! You will have a blast. Fort Sam is the best place to be, especially in March. You are going to want to wish you would have stayed after you get to your first post. Relax, meet lots of new people, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
