Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

I am still anxiously awaiting a letter from the Fort Wayne campus. I am really excited to find out what happens next and to register for classes. Hopefully, we will get letters today. Does anybody know how they go about registering people for classes? Do people with higher scores get to register first or is it just random? Just curious as to what my chances are of getting into the class times that I want. Good luck to everyone that is watching their mail. Have a great day!!

Good questions. I bet every campus has their own way of doing that, maybe? For the letter I got for Indy, it just said we would register at our orientation. I have only heard that we don't have a lot of control over our schedules and to plan to be flexible! The class schedules are up in campus connect if you want to browse them, you could at least get a rough idea of what it might look like.

Congratulations to everybody that got/gets their letters today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:yeah::yeah::yeah:

mhnice, csab and cthomas - you have NO idea how thankful I am that you stepped up and said something to this offensive poster. I didn't feel I deserved a lecture over trying to help Lennon feel better about getting in, and I was really pretty put off by it. I've noticed that person's posts in the past and tried to ignore them, but I REALLY REALLY appreciate your support (I know it wasn't only intended for me) and literally got teary eyed when I saw those this morning just knowing that I will be in school with such wonderful people. Even the way you all said it was so respectful and polite!

MasonsMommy,

I think it's so important to have a supportive network of peers, especially peers who are good students and OCD :) I know many of us will be continuing on this journey together and I think the bonds we are forming will help hold us up when we get overwhelmed and wonder if we will ever be able to achieve our goals (and we will!). I meant what I said, where we go one, we go all :) We are all in this together and I am thankful for all of you!

Thanks Qtrhrse, but I REALLY want you to call her... PRETTY PLEASE?!?! (See, I can be supportive and bossy at the same time! Does that make me a multi-tasker? snort!)

i think that combo will make you one hell of a nurse. it has already made you one hell of a student and a hell of a friend :):redpinkhe

I looked at my phone about 20 minutes ago and saw a text from my husband about me getting a letter from Indy today!!! So I just got home on my lunch and IT'S FOR REAL, IT'S REALLY HERE AND I CAN BREATHE AGAIN! I cried so hard at work when I found out, so now I have to go back for half an hour and tell everyone :D And then on my way home I'm going to Borders to buy an NCLEX review book!!!!!!

Still holding out for Bloomington, but I'M IN AT INDY! :D

You guys are so amazing, I don't know what I would do without you all!

Qtrhrse - I'm sending every bit of good luck energy I've got towards you now!

YAY Lennon!! I'm SOOOOO happy for you! Congrats! I'm so, so glad you finally got your decision! Fingers still crossed for your Bloomington acceptance. Is Bloomington your first choice? Bet you'll miss us if you don't choose Indy :) :) :)

Yaaaay Lennon!! Congrats!!! :balloons::cheers:

I definitely think we should all meet up after Orientation!

Just out of curiosity, everyone that has kids - how many and how old are they? What are you doing as far as daycare when the program starts?

Hi Mason,

I have a little boy who is a little more than two. My mom (who is wonderful and I'm so grateful for her!) got a new job so she could keep him while I was in school. She will be working Saturday, Sunday, Monday. My husband is off Monday. So we're very fortunate that we will be able to continue to keep him at home with us. We had him in day care after my maternity leave was over for about a week and it was terrible, terrible, terrible. I started working third shift then so he could stay home with me.

There is a website for Indiana licensed child care facilities (at home and centers) that gives licensing information as far as violations and citations, as well as any major grievances. It's also a good place to start as far as finding day care that is conveniently located. It's called CareFinder Indiana and the website is https://secure.in.gov/apps/fssa/carefinder/index.html Not sure if that will be helpful to you, but when I was pregnant and initially looking, I used this to cross many places off my list immediately after reading violations that were unacceptable to me. There is also an agency called Child Care Answers in Indiana that I've heard of but don't know much about. You can learn more here: http://www.childcareanswers.com/

HTH!

MasonMommy- I have two girls Sophia she will be 5 next month and going to Kindergarten full-time in the fall. Ava is 3.5 and she will be in preschool/daycare come August if I get in! If my husband finds a job. He got laid off in April, so this is a really scary time for us! We just moved to INDY for his job at the end of Dec, so this was a shock to us! We don't know too many people here and that is why I am glued to this computer with you guys, trying to fit in and get into school! That's my crazy life right now!!! but still hopeful and determined!

Hi sunshine,

Just wanted to tell you I am sorry you are going through a rough time right now. Hope things start looking up soon. Keep your positive spirit about you and I hope the rough patch gets better soon! Take care.

:balloons: CONGRATULATIONS Qtrhrs & Mandy :balloons:

I GOT IT I GOT IT I GOT IT!!!!!!!

I called the office today and they said my letter went out on Wed. with everyone elses. The people a couple of houses down have an address that is close to ours and they frequently get our mail. I went down there to ask them if they got anything addressed to me, and they weren't home. My other neighbor was outside, so I mentioned it to her and she went into their mailbox to check and there it was!! I guess it is always good to have a neighbor that will commit a felony for you! :) (Oh and btw, Ivy Tech put the wrong address on my envelope!!!)

I just want to say thank you thank you thank you for all your support, and I promise I am not really this much of a drama queen! You guys are awesome and I cannot wait to meet you all. I say we definately meet up for lunch on the 25th after the meeting.

Have a great weekend everyone! I know I will!!!!!

CONGRATS qtrhrse!! I knew you were in!! So glad you have your letter and don't have to agonize anymore! YAY! Enjoy your weekend, keep celebrating! :) :monkeydance:

Qtrhrse - Oh man, I'm so glad you got your letter finally! What a fiasco! Congrats!

Congrats to everyone, this is so exciting!!

mhnice - Yeah, Bloomington is my first choice since I live only about 5 minutes from campus. But you're right, I will miss you guys if I end up not going to Indy! We all have to make sure and keep in touch during the semester, I can't wait to hear about everyone's take on the first day of classes!

I went to Borders and bought an NCLEX-RN review book by Saunders because it seemed like it was a favorite here on allnurses. And I got a cool clipboard a few months ago at work, so I guess those are my first official supplies! Whee! :D

Congrats Qtrhrse! now you got me wondering if they got my address wrong. I started applying to the college when I was still in Illinois! I hope it didn't got there!

Thanks mhnice! The support is very appreciated. I know I will be given the road I am suppose to take...but it doesn't hurt to wish for what you want & cross your fingers for a little help!

Amy, thanks I do need a few suggestions...OB, Dentist! Preferably someone that does not do both..hahaha

Hey Chris-I am really weighing LPN Fall or ASN Spring, that is why I am going to retake ANPII for the A! I guess my biggest concern is being able to start working as a LPN and continue school for the ASN or is there a straight to BSN program!

AAAHHHH..here I go again...what to do?????? well I don't even know if I have a choice right now-ok Lora take it easy it's getting late. Another day waiting for MAIL>

i think that combo will make you one hell of a nurse. it has already made you one hell of a student and a hell of a friend :):redpinkhe

Aw, Melissa, you've touched my heart - and I'm crying. (for those who don't yet know me, I don't do that!)

It's been an emotional week. Many of us have been on a rollercoaster, some still are...waiting on "the letter." You know, we all bring different things to the table in this academic journey. In turn, we all leave different things behind in order to fulfill our personal dreams. It won't be easy, but we'll make it! If anything has been proven on this thread, it is that we are determined women!

I'll spare everyone a full bio, but I'm 45 years old and have spent the past 22 years working FT and being a wife and momma. My dh and I devoted most of our free time to our kid's extracurricular school activities. Many parental friendships naturally developed in the process, which have now taken a backseat to academics in our home. (Dh and I both returned to school one week after our baby's hs graduation in 2007!)

Anyway - all that said - I miss those friendships! However, I'm blessed with the opportunity to build even more, especially in this new life chapter. I'm so excited about the next 2 years, and am filled with anticipation to meet each of you in our journey together.

Melissa, thank you for your sweet compliments. I appreciate you and your friendship more than you'll ever know. You'll be a great pediatric nurse!

Here's hoping all those still waiting WILL get their letters tomorrow. Hugs! Goodnight JohnBoy! (OK, do you young'uns even know who JohnBoy is?)
