I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!
How about introductions and a little info about each person?
I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!
Congrats Qtrhrse!!!!!!!! What a RELIEF!! You are not a drama queen, it was nerve wracking!:yelclap::balloons::yelclap:
By the way, my name is Amy because I probably wont be calling myself Masonsmommy at orientation :wink2:
That's interesting cthomas...I wondered if she didn't have a bigger involvement in Ivy Tech than just student. At any rate, I agree that this is an awesome bunch!!!
Hi Amy! I'm Melissa. I PM'ed you :)
I know there were some questions earlier about financial aid issues and not registering for classes until the nursing orientation. Just wanted everyone to know, I just checked my Ivy Tech email and there was a message saying I could now look up my awards. I was able to go in, accept my awards, and complete my entrance counseling. I'm not registered for any hours yet for Fall or Spring, but was still able to accept the full student loan amount for both semesters.
Me too, mhnice. I was so excited because to my surprise I had a pell grant of 1200.00, This is the first time I've ever gotten anything!! I always borrowed, borrowed, borrowed. So now I get to borrow 1200.00 less!

Which county do you live in? Marion? Please let us know what you need on a day to day basis - I have a few resource ideas, and I'm sure others can help to. We'll be with you and support you and your family as you work towards your goal :loveya:
It was great to go through all these posts!
Missed you cthomas!!
Thanks mhnice! :redpinkhe
I just tried to check my financial aid, but the site is down (*whimper*) I got an email saying I was awarded something, so that is GREAT! I had to do a deed in leu of foreclosure on my old house - I was afraid it would adversely affect my financial aid. According to the email, I got something! Thank God!

That's great news!! Did you apply for student loans? My understanding is that as long as your enrollment hours are sufficient, you are able to accept the entire student loan award if you want, which is about $4250/semester I believe. Then grants, scholarships, etc are additional bonuses! Ah, the lengths we will go to in order to become nurses!
You're so very welcome. If you guys think I'm OCD about school, I'm sure you can imagine how I am about my son. I am so blessed that I am able to work nights and stay home with him, that my husband has a flexible job, and that my mom was willing to make our son her first priority and change her job around. I am so grateful that he can be at home with us. I know there are great child care places out there, we just couldn't find one! We originally went with an in-home licensed provider. When I was pregnant and met her, we loved her and thought it was a good match...then she became very ill with a pregnancy (we didn't know she was pregnant, it was very early on) and had a substitute caregiver, who we did not mesh well with. She was kind of harsh and I cried every day on my way to work about leaving my three month old with her. One day I just decided enough was enough and I started looking for nontraditional work hours. Thankfully I found my current position which allows me to keep working full time and keep the kiddo at home. Have I told you that I'm so thankful? LOL. I hope the websites help. Good luck and I hope you find someone you trust! And we would love to have a playdate! PM me anytime!!! We're always looking for new friends since we don't get to be around other kids as much as he would if he did go to a day care. Seriously, I'd love to!
Oh man, I can only imagine how awful it must have been to think you had a great provider lined up and then have to leave your baby with someone you didn't feel great about! Especially when they are that tiny. I'm soooo grateful I was able to stay home with Mason for his first 2 years (I did paperwork for my Dad's business at home). Are you going to keep your job once the program starts? I have no idea how much I'll be able to handle, I guess I'll have to see how it goes.

Yeah, I'm going to keep working. We really don't have a choice, we depend on both our incomes to get by. I am a little worried but I think it will be okay. Sometimes work gets crazy but I also have a LOT of down time, which is why I'm always able to post here and I also get a lot of studying done here. I work 12 hours shifts on Friday and Saturday nights, and those are usually pretty quiet around here. Knock on wood!! I am just going to have to really be disciplined about managing my time and not fart around on All Nurses! :)
cthomas- thanks so much! I may need some advice from you on the foreclosure. Not my current home, but the one in Michigan I have not been able to sell. I have an appointment with an attorney June 8. Do you see that big thing hanging over my head???? Stress!!! But I think I found my umbrella....yous' guys (just a mafia saying!) nursing student mafia- we stick together, right?
I really do mean it.... thanks a bunch
