waiting game?

I am officially applying to carrington college in Reno! I know that nursing is what i'm meant to do! My interview went terrific... They take 32 people, and I was told 350 were going to take the hesi a2. I know a good chunk of those people might not even pass, and then you have to make sure everything gets done before the deadline (drug test, background check, documents etc.) I took the Hesi a2 on a weeks notice... studied my butt of and managed a 92%! (or a 277/300). Everyone is telling me I should be proud of my score... And that I shouldn't be worried about getting in.... BUT I AM! Letters will be mailed out Nov 28th. I'm dying already! Is 92% (277) a competitive score?? Admissions reps asked if I was considering taking the test again... But I heard them ask that to everyone that was interviewing in the rooms next to me as well. All of the dates are full and I am on a waiting list... But bottom line i'm trying to feel confident in my score, but I'm a worrier by nature. I like to be the best! (Terrible habit I know). Any insight or help would be much appreciated! :)

Becky called me back tonight around 7:00. I asked her about what we were discussing about securing financing for the second academic year and she said she didn't know anything about it. I have an appt tomorrow at 2:00 and I will let you know what I find out. I have 21 transfer credits so that part is nice and I subtracted the amount off the books that I won't need so combined it was a decent chunk of change. :-)

yes please please please let me know! but wow that is definitely going to save you A TON of money!

How did the meeting go?!

New to the site here.. I was wondering if anyone had night time job suggestions for someone just starting out in college..

It went pretty good. Unfortunately I don't qualify for much in Federal loans. She basically told me what she thought I would get and subtracted my transfer credits, books, etc. . The total cost is still just over 40K for me. She also said that I need to show her my plan by December 16th. I've basically got to come up with 27K by then. Might need to do a parents plus loan but that's the last thing I really want to do. Your meeting should be fine, she really just wants to discuss how much you pay and when it's due and show you your options financially.

Yeah that's what they told me in my last meeting... I got that print out and everything that i'm sure you got today. So does showing her your plan involve having an actual loan already? Or just that it's what you intend to do? So is the 27k for the entire program? Because I don't see how they can ask you to come up with that when that's an estimated total... I mean your financial aid can change. I think that's where i'm a bit confused.

Were you able to sign up for your classes and stuff?

No I didn't get to sign up for classes at all. They did have me try on scrubs though! That was fun.

She estimated what Federal loans would cover for me. The 27K is the difference after Stafford Sub/Unsubs loans is subtracted from my total cost of the program (about 40K total). I don't know if a parent plus loan is an option for you but she gave me an application for my parents to fill out. If they qualify, then I've shown that they will be able to pay down the road when tuition get really expensive. I'm assuming that I would need to be pre-approved for a private loan if that's the route I choose to take by the 16th.

I'm supposed to take Sociology in Jan and that Government 141 the following term. So I won't actually have to worry about paying till the 3rd semester starts. I'm going to look around at what the banks offer and visit the local credit unions.

Hopefully the estimate she gave me for my financial aid will be at least that, I know it will increase when I fill out next years FAFSA.

I just really need to win the lottery now.

:banghead:

Yeah, unfortunately it's not. I'm submitting the app because when they get denied it'll bump my loan amount to independent which helps me a bit. The only tricky thing is my mom works for a bank, and she told me that banks don't pre approve like that when I wouldn't need the money until the 2nd academic year anyways. I want to find out what they would need if hypothetically someone was paying for me. Because they can't ask for money up front since it's not a for sure total... But I don't know really what they would require in that situation. I've been trying to get ahold of them to ask more questions.

Because i'm covered until that 3rd semester starts too...

Yeah I have no idea. My parents talked about maybe tapping into their 401K but I'm not sure what they would need either if someone could pay for school without any loans. Maybe they make those people bring in a bank statement or something. lol

It's pretty crappy we have to have this all figured out now. Especially when I would be happy to pay right now for semester 1 and 2.

Make sure you are calling the front desk. I can never get ahold of anyone when I call their personal line but when I call the front desk and have me transferred they almost always answer within a minute.

Maybe you could tell them you plan to use a Carrington College loan? I know that's probably your last choice but maybe just saying that now would allow you to register. Then you can worry about your private loans when it comes time to pay.

I was totally going to do that, but in order to apply for the carrington loan you have to have a letter of rejection from a private loan. I just think its so ridiculous that it's this huge serious thing, with like a weeks notice.
