waiting game?

I am officially applying to carrington college in Reno! I know that nursing is what i'm meant to do! My interview went terrific... They take 32 people, and I was told 350 were going to take the hesi a2. I know a good chunk of those people might not even pass, and then you have to make sure everything gets done before the deadline (drug test, background check, documents etc.) I took the Hesi a2 on a weeks notice... studied my butt of and managed a 92%! (or a 277/300). Everyone is telling me I should be proud of my score... And that I shouldn't be worried about getting in.... BUT I AM! Letters will be mailed out Nov 28th. I'm dying already! Is 92% (277) a competitive score?? Admissions reps asked if I was considering taking the test again... But I heard them ask that to everyone that was interviewing in the rooms next to me as well. All of the dates are full and I am on a waiting list... But bottom line i'm trying to feel confident in my score, but I'm a worrier by nature. I like to be the best! (Terrible habit I know). Any insight or help would be much appreciated! :)

I was hoping that saying a relative was going to help me pay would allow me to register, that way I'd have more time to figure out what I'm actually going to do.

I had my meeting today. With my transfer credits my total cost is just over $42000 as well. We figured out my federal student loans and I would need to come up with around $5000 my second academic year and the same amount the third academic year. She asked how I will be paying and I said either a private loan or with money from my savings account. She said okay, so I will just put that amount as a payment. That was it. Sammy, I don't think you need to be worried. They didn't tell me I needed to prove I had a loan for the additional money or that I had the money in my account. They just want to know that you have a plan to get it. As far as classes go, I will be taking english the first semester and then socialogy and communications the second semester. Becki said that they probably won't have schedules for everyone until the orientation. I hope that helps! I really don't think you have anything to worry about. :twocents:

Hey Christina. Congrats on getting everything set. I need to take sociology too! They said I have to take that the first semester. I wonder why we would be in different classes maybe. That's a little irritating because I asked Becki today if the schedule can be adjusted for the basic core classes and she said definitely not. They also said I need to take that Gov141 class in the second semester. It would stink if they mixed up the classes like that. I would like to get to know our class of 32 rather than take classes with people I might not have class with ever again.

Also, I'm concerned that they are requiring more from me and possibly Sammy too because I owe substantially more money. I was really bummed that my federal loans student loans are only expected to cover a little more than 10K total. It breaks down to just a little more than the amount of money I get per semester at UNR.

I will keep you updated Sammy if anything changes. Hopefully, like Christina said, we just need to tell them what the plan is without any documentation to back it up just yet.

Thanks for the info Christina!

They had to adjust my schedule to make my financial aid work. Originally I would have been taking english and sociology my first semester and communications my second but I needed to have two classes my second semester for financial aid. The amount I am referring to my needing to pay is the amount my loans won't cover. The first academic year my charges are around $3600 but I will taking out the full student loan amount of $9500 and using the access to pay down part of the money for the second academic year. The total amount for year two is $21049 and the loan amount will be $10500 and I will be applying the $5700 loan surplus amount for the first year to year two and the amount I will owe with other funds will be about $5000 and then the amount not covered by my normal student loans for year three will be $5000. I hope that kind of makes sense..

excess money...not access...geez

That makes sense. Thanks so much!

Oh wow, they didn't even mention that they could rearrange my schedule to get me in at least 6 credits. That would be helpful to take out a large loan for year one and saving that for the next year. My loans still aren't that much help, but I think it should increase significantly after the next FAFSA is used.

I think I'm just going to tell them that family is helping me and I'm using savings. I think it would be absolutely ridiculous for them to question me even more or require some kind of bank statement. This whole thing is making my mother quite irritated. Haha. I hope we get schedules before that :/ my boss might kill me if I had that short of notice. Hopefully I'll have some idea of times after the meeting? Did she mention what time of day they were or just what semester you'd have to take them in? But I can't wait to try on the scrubs!!!!! So exciting! Do you only get one pair?

And my fafsa is going to increase substantially next year... So hopefully that'll help too. But of course they don't take that into consideration because everything is estimated.

Lol, it was exciting! :) That was the only good thing that has come out of my meeting so far. haha! They gave me a gross old try-on pair and just took down my sizes. I know that the tuition covers the cost of two pants and two shirts. We will probably get them at orientation??

My parents and myself are getting really irritated. I'm glad we are all talking to each other because otherwise I feel like I may have been screwed over in a lot of different ways so far.

I asked Becki about the schedule because I would like to work and attend classes at UNR. She told me that classes do have a set schedule and days of the week. I was concerned that the teachers would feel free to switch anatomy lecture with sociology lecture or something like that. Becki told me that the schedule would not be complete until orientation but she did say for the last two semester sociology has been held every Thursday from 1-4. I would ask her again after your meeting. It seems that everyone gets different information from the staff there.

I can't wait to try them on! That's the only real thing I'm excited about at this point lol. My mom is super irritated and keeps saying that's no way to run a school. I just don't see what good comes out of keeping information from us. I'd much rather have them be honest in the first place. I'm definitely going to ask for some kind of idea with the schedule. It seems crazy we won't know what times well be in school until 4 days before. I can already tell my boss will have some words for me. Both my mother and I called Tiffany yesterday directly and through the front desk. Both left messages early in the day and never heard anything back. This whole situation has been quite frustrating.

I've been accepted to the program in January as well. I'm really excited because I love the vibe of the school! I talked to a few current students during my application process (I just introduced myself to them in the lobby), and they had nothing but good things to say about it as well. Most of the time, nursing students complain because the work is HARD. But these ladies have some crazy passion for that they were learning and I'm totally excited to be around that.

I will be taking several classes in the first term: English, A&P, and Sociology.

From my talks with them, I think that the following is true:

1. I think we will have access to the schedule around the end of December. Not a lot of notice, but we can probably make it work if we all warn our bosses/kids/parents/friends now.

2. We get 2 sets of scrubs but can buy more of them, probably around $40 per set. Personally, I plan on having 5 sets- depending on how many days a week we'll be in school. I hate having to do laundry all the time and I hate wearing dirty clothes.

3. About financial aid. (I have private loans.) I was clear with them that I would be paying by check and that I would be able to pay when they were due, I just needed a schedule. I will be bringing proof of my ability to pay, but I doubt that I will need it. They want to make this work for us. Just be open with them and be honest with yourselves about your ability to get the loans. The whole point about them wanting to be sure we can make the payments, is that they really want to be sure that we will be able to finish the program. That they will help finance us, is really nice. Getting a rejection letter is easy, the bank will do it on the spot. I have experienced this a few times. :)

We'll get there! It'll be starting before we know it. Breathe in and out and relax now, because once school starts, we'll be up to our umbilici in WORK. :-)

Thanks! I've seen a few people wearin different bottoms that were sti grey since I'm sure you can get those cheaper at a scrub store. But I will definitely be needing more than 2 pairs. That's way too much laundry! I had my meeting today and just let them know my family was going to help me. She asked for a letter from someone just saying that they do in fact intend to help me. No big. And then said if I do in fact need private loans I just need them by September. Wasn't a huge thing. I got to register for classes and Becki said a few people have declined their admission so it's delaying the process. She said she'll call if they're ready before orientation but if not well be getting them that day along with books and having our ID pictures taken. Wish we had more notice... But I understand where they are coming from. So now comes more waiting! I just want it to be here already, although I should enjoy my time now. I'd just like to know which classes I'll be taking which semester. She never told me. Lol
