Hi
I am just waiting to hear if I have been accepted to DCN for summer06. I talked to someone from DCN a few days ago and my file is complete they just need to review it. Just wondering if there is anyone else out there going to DCN in the summer06.

DCN is on an admissions hold pending the outcome of a hearing with the MO BON regarding the online program. They have the hearing scheduled the end of April 2006.
Good Luck.
Thank you for the heads up. I hope they dont drop the online program.

dharma-
Do tell more! Is this due to low NCLEX pass rates?
Thx,
WG
If you want to know because you are interested in the program, I suggest you call DCN personally. They can give you any further information you need.

Hey ang05--
I'm currently a DCN online student. The NCLX pass rates are for the first year the online program was in effect. They have had several changes and the pass rate has increased, but the state boards arent looking at this numbers they are only looking into the older numbers
Good luck with trying to get in.
hi shomelggs,
I spoke with someone from deaconess and she told me the same thing. That is a shame. I am just going to apply somewhere else and be put on a waiting list and then if deaconess gets to keep the online program then maybe I will consider, I dont really know now.
Thanks for your reply

In December at the state meeting, it was decided that the "plug would be pulled" on the DCN online ADN program. And yes, this was due to low board pass rates. (66%, then the newest rate was 42% - you can see this on the website). On January 6, a stay was granted for students currently in the program, pending the legal investigation of the program, and the decision as to whether or not the program's existence will continue will be decided at the end of April.
I spoke with the Missouri State Board of Nursing directly.
Angie, you live in St. Louis. Just a bit of advice..............the DCN online program does not have a good reputation in St. Louis. You would have an easier time finding better employment post NCLEX if you attended a different program. Trust me on this one....
DCN traditionally is a good school, it's just the online program.
Well that is just truely a shame!! There are/were some excellent instructors there that utilized this format with superior skill.
Ang05 try Maryville University. I have a friend that went through their nursing school and was very complementary about them. They also have a good reputation (from what I have heard) so might be worth while to look into.
There are some excellent instructors there, I agree. They are the same instructors that are in the traditional program. I think there are some serious program issues, not instructor issues, which is ashame.
I heard they are starting an evening / weekend program, which would be great. Not enough of those in the area. Of course, that really only benefits students in the STL metro area.

Hi Nadja,
It's good to see you posting again. Hope all is well with you and your schooling.
I wanted to say that from what I have heard the online program at DCN has a really good shot at being granted a stay from the BON. They are working very hard to keep the program going. I sincerely hope they do because it is a good program and I think they just need to work out the kinks.

Mona RN...
Congrats on passing the RN NCLEX!!! I am waiting for my ATT for the PN NCLEX right now...hope to take the exam by the 17th of February. From what I have been told, the ONLINE ASN students from DCN have a 100% pass rate on the PN NCLEX, for those that decided to sit this exam after semester three.
Keep in touch!
