waiting, Air Force Nurse Corps

Published

Hello all, I am new to this forum, but have been reading from it for some time. I am curious. Who is still waiting for the fully qualified selection status from Jan boards? It seems that AFPC is busy with other matters for the immediate future. I am waiting patiently....well not so patiently!

Mid's right. Pass your weight, pass your PT, and there's two less things you have to worry about.

That's what my husband said. Idk why they need a "current" weight. She said that my recruiter should've been weighing me every month. Geez. I'm not leaving till March. BOO. But I did get my #1 choice, Travis!

Never heard of an officer being weighed every month. Enlisted personnel in the delayed enlistment program get weighed every month, but not officers - not that I've ever heard.

I agree with Hnella - I think your recruiter is attempting to scare you.

I agree with everyone I wouldn't worry. Just watch what you eat and drink. A week of proper intake and output you should be fine. I heard from someone in class now she has lost 7 punds and as she put it "many inches". My wt is find (20 under) but I wouldn't mind afew inches off. My problem is I think I have runners knee now.....anyone with advice or suggestions? Using the Motrin and bought a knee brace; which help. I don't want to go to the MDs for a dx, figure rest will help.

gerri, I am in a similar situation - I have been advised to not run for 4-6 weeks due to recurrent tendonitis. I have been told, if it hurts then rest it and resume gradually. The trouble is that I am way too impatient to wait until it fully heals to run again. Then it gets worse until I am forced to rest. i guess this body is trying to tell me I am not twenty anymore

I am far (:crying2:) from 20 but am in decent shape but that darn knee....grrrrr. Plus I am one of those that likes instant gratification. I know rest and take it easy but its kind of hard when I work and am on my feet. The brace does feel good and I have kept it up the past 2 days (days off) but tomorrw I work and heard its very busy. I figure I will keep up on my other work outs and relax on the running for awhile. Been using a tension bar and straps for upper body and LOVE it.

Thanks guys. It made me realize though that its real now and to really shape up. Been running 1.5 miles yesterday and today. Ill keep bumping it up and keep decreasing my time.

gerrib - there will be lots of folks there with knee braces. Most of us aren't and weren't in our 20s and they know that. I got through COT with a rather interesting knee myself.

Never heard of an officer being weighed every month. Enlisted personnel in the delayed enlistment program get weighed every month, but not officers - not that I've ever heard.

AMYRN, you are not the only one having to weigh in every month. Myself and another nurse who is waiting to go to COT do it. We do it for accountability as we live and Florida and our Recruiter is in Louisiana. Recruiters are supposed make contact every month with their people, since we live so far away it isn't possible. So, we make contact with a recruiter and weigh in and then call our own recruiter to check in with the recruiting office we went to and name of the recruiter we saw.

Carolina I have no medical hx of knee problems this just cropped up recently and I have NO plans to get a md involved. Simple runners knee. Are there actually students at COT running with braces on? If so fantastic, guess I can join that club...LOL! Just took my Motrin for the night, brace off and hitting the hay. Bad day at work a pt who no one would fathom a guess at decided to hit and kick myselfplus 3 other nurses. Thank goodness I have tomorrow off.

Then you're fine. I agree - if there's no MD, it's not a medical problem. I'm in the same boat - it's nice to know that on this side once it goes, I'm very covered!

Oh yeah - there were a bunch of us thirtysomethings with various knee or ankle supports! We're adults; they actually DO recognize that.

Have a question on watches....I live for mine, only take it off to shower. At COT what is the reg on wearing a watch? I have an Omega and do not want to trash it, was an anniversary present from my husband any suggestions. I have a LL Bean field watch and could get a appropriate band to wear with it, if thats acceptable what kind of band should I get. Did look at the kind that covers the face.

Carolina, read your reply in another post regarding AF history and suggested books. I have Beyond the wild blue and it is a VERY hard read. I have yet to read the Angles book as I know it a tear jerker....but will. Thanks for all the info.

The reg for COT is the same as the Air Force - nothing outlandish or faddish. I wore my own snazzy watch on a day-to-day basis and had a good old Timex digital with a stopwatch for PT and the field exercise. Your Omega is fine.

Be sure you take a small lock (the kind you'd put on a suitcase) because while there is a security drawer in your room, a standard lock is too big for it. A luggage lock works just fine.
