waiting, Air Force Nurse Corps

Published

Hello all, I am new to this forum, but have been reading from it for some time. I am curious. Who is still waiting for the fully qualified selection status from Jan boards? It seems that AFPC is busy with other matters for the immediate future. I am waiting patiently....well not so patiently!

gerrib83,

thanks for the quick reply. I don't think i have any health problems that will give me much of a problem. I was dxed with asthma when I was 2 but my primary care doctor later denounced that diagnoses and made an amendment to my medical record stating that I was a healthy adult. I currently run a few half marathons a year and have never had to use a MDI or SVN treatments. If a diagnosis I got from an overactive medical resident when I was two years old comes back to haunt me I will lose all faith in the U.S. A.F.

Im going to call a medical recruiter in the morning to get an idea about how long its gonna take before I can go work for the A.F. or what my chances are of obtaining a commission.

Thanks

PS anyone else on here a graduate nurse who is directly applying to A.F. And if so what are your credentials......GPA, past exp in medicine, past exp in A.F. I just want to get a rough estimate of my chances.

I would not even mention the asthma dx if I were you, especially if it was rescinded and you do not have asthma. In my experience, they only need copies of specific medical records if you have any red flags in your past medical history. For instance, I had a DVT postpartum, so I got copies of my latest venous doppler that cleared me. The Board for new nurse graduates is only meeting once a year now. The next Board meets in January 2011, so I would recommend calling a health professions recruiter soon. I graduate in May 2011, and I started my application in May of this year.

Found out today that I have until next Friday to commission! I'm so excited! This day seemed sooo far off, but now things are finally starting to fall into place! Whew... There's a lot to be said for patience and perseverance!

Congrats Travel!

It's an exciting day.

Well, I commissioned yesterday as a Captain in the USAF! My recruiter said my orders should be here in December and I think I'm going to start buying some uniforms! I really thought the day would never come. It's been a long process (started July 2009.) Now I just have to work on those push-ups! :lol2:

Congrats Travelcrazy!

Specializes in all.

this whole process gets more and more confusing...I leave for COT in Jan and I am told I may not commission until days before I leave.. I am starting to have doubts about even joining the AF....,

Nothing about the whole process is clear cut. There have been many times I've read about people on this web site whose experiences have been way different from mine. I haven't seen one person who has had the same time frame of events as I have had. (most people got through with their acceptance letters, cot dates, and commissionings much faster than me) it's definetly frustrating. If you already have a cot date for january then i would be thankful because many, many folks are going to be waiting a long time to get in. My advice: call your recruiter and tell them you know of some individuals who have already got their commission and don't leave till march and inquire about why you have not! Stay on him. FortunTely I've had a great recruiter through all of this. On another note- thanks mid!!!!

Specializes in ER, ICU, Med/Surg.

Congrats to you Travelcrazy!

I think it is standard that most do not commission until just before they leave. I commissioned in April and left in May. Some did it just days before they got to COT. It's no difference when you do it. Don't worry about it. Orders seem to inevitably not come until the last minute, even when you are on active duty. Just understand that you are going to always be in a hurry up and wait category. Plan everything the best you can and be ready to run when it all falls in place.
