Hello all, I am new to this forum, but have been reading from it for some time. I am curious. Who is still waiting for the fully qualified selection status from Jan boards? It seems that AFPC is busy with other matters for the immediate future. I am waiting patiently....well not so patiently!
Oh my goodness no way! Any and all information is so important in this endeavor. Most will go in blind and to get any input is fantastic. I am one who will collect all the data and still go for more info...probably OCD, lol! The feeling I get and have been told its like the first day at school and you are "all alone" and know no one. Oh and then the "yelling". But the mind set is the key...only x days or weeks to go and then you are done. Watching the goal be obtained !!
Question.. the power point presentation or the presentation we have to do at COT.....what is it suppose to be on? Air Force? Healthcare? Lastly where are you stationed? If you don't mind me asking.
You're right - the first day IS like the first day at school. And never mind the yelling - it's tame, very very tame compared to what you will see the line officer trainees (the BOT students) go through and isn't even close to what I went through in AF basic training. Really, it's a mind game and it's not that bad. I'm sure for nonpriors it's a bit of culture shock - but just keep in mind it's a mind game to see how you handle yourself in a strange environment. You'll be fine. You'll be laughing about the first day at the O-club orientation with your instructors near the end of COT. Believe me, you will.
The presentation - they will give you the topic. It's a three-day research thing - you're not expected to be an expert on it, it's more for helping you learn to think on your feet and for learning the "military" way of giving a short briefing. Don't sweat it; it's easy stuff.
I'm stationed at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base. I'm on the only BMT unit in the Department of Defense.
I'm at COT now. We just did CWT1. PT test on Friday.
I made 2 trips to car. Bring a working computer with internet and a printer. office supplies.
This is not a walk in the park. It is not like my army basic training. It is harder in some ways and easier in others. But I'm not having the same experience as most of the people here. I'm the Trainee Group Commander, which means I'm a target and everyone finds the slightest prob with me. And I hear about everyone elses infarctions too. We don't have privileges yet. Because people can't seem to get it thru their heads that they can't talk in halls, can't talk in formation, and some fools had civilian clothes on in the dorms.
ok, sorry. I'm not having a great day. Tomorrow will be better.
You're at count down Midinphx, only a short time now....good luck! Glad to hear you got 2 trips to the dorm. Makes me think more and more about taking my car down. I have a question.....you can not have civies in your room? Where do you put them, as you arrive in them and are requested to have afew changes with you. Lastly the rubbermaid tub we are to have, available at the shoppette?
Carolinapooh, Lackland...a nice base, been there afew times. Actually walked around the medical center when we were there, very nice place! I love SA but the dust is a negative for me. I am going to see my son at Dyess next month and we plan to go down, do the "tourist thing". His gf is a IDMT at the same base. Working at BMT must be rough, are your patients all the boots? Must be interesting!
It was definitely nice to have my car when I went! After getting your stuff out the first night, you won't see it for almost 4 weeks, but being able to use it for storage is helpful! Once you have privileges, it feels really good to drive your car...almost makes you feel normal!!
You'll wear civies the first 2 days. You can sleep in whatever you want, but when you're awake and moving around the dorms, you have to have the PT uniform on. There's plenty of drawer space to put clothes in. And you'll want a few outfits for when you have privileges towards the end. We had one weekend where we were allowed to leave the base.
The rubbermaid tub is available at the shoppette, and there's plenty of them. You only need it to store food in.
Definitely bring a 3 hole punch, stapler, glue stick, pens, pencils, and at least one pack of copy paper. On top of the copy machines breaking down, we were constantly running out of paper. And if 20 people were trying to print something with no paper in the printer, as soon as you put paper in there, it would spit out everyone else's stuff before your stuff printed! Then you wasted all of your paper! Other than that, bring whatever you like to use to take notes in class...equivalent to one normal size spiral bound notebook, unless you take alot of notes.
You will be able to get mail. It doesn't really matter what size. I had one flight mate whose mom sent her 2 large boxes with snacks, pictures of family, and some of her favorite stuff from home. No one puts restrictions on that kind of stuff. It's good for morale!!

Everyones advise and input has been fabulous. Clarifying information and building upon what you know/hear helps us all. I read it everyday. I'm still praying to be accepted. Maybe this week I'll hear. We are so lucky to have all this information prior to starting. It's a whole new life with so much to learn and experience. :))
