Virginia nurse roll call

Published

Just wanted to see how the Virginia nurses on this board are doing and kinda get a feel for how many are still posting or lurking. How's life treating you? Where are you at in your nursing career?

I'll start. I graduated in 12/08 and I am now in my 9th week of a 12 week orientation on a med-surg/oncology floor. I have my good days at work and my bad days. Mostly, I contribute my bad days to being new and trying to get in the swing of things.

So, who's next?

Specializes in Surgical Trauma Burn ICU, Oncology.
Have you found something? UVA is hiring, Martha Jefferson and there are several decent nursing homes in the area/

Good luck. I am across the mountain....

Yeah I applied to UVA in the middle of Febuary and although I talk w/ the new grad nurse recruiter like twice a week....I'm still waiting for a straight up ANSWER to whether or not I get a job! I applied twice to Martha Jefferson but I get the vibe that they don't want new grads...and if they do I doubt I stand a chance coming from South Carolina and not knowing about the hospital, they probably think I'm just applying to apply. Where do you work?? Any other words of advice? Oh, and I have applied to other nursing home type jobs around Charlottesville, nothing.

I guess I'll post on here!

Ya know, I've lived in VA all my life and know next to nothing about the Hampton area. My sister lives in Newport News and when I go to visit we just stick with the fun stuff like shopping and eating. LOL I'll ask her about the local hospitals and get back to you. I do know that Mary Imaculate hospital is in that area. You might want to start there.

I'll keep you posted on what I learn from my sister.

Okay, I asked my sister. There is a Sentara hospital in Hampton and another in Newport News. And there is Mary Immaculate in Newport News also. Newport News is not far from Hampton.

Hi VA nurses,

I just graduated in May '09 and just passed boards - I'll be starting on an oncology unit in a couple weeks. Speaking of - anybody have any good input regarding oncology and what all it entails? Unfortunately never got into the oncology clinical during school.

Thanks! :)

Howdy, Guess today is my official first day as a RN, as I wrote NCLEX yesterday and got the results this morning. Nice to have that behind me. Start at end of Aug at reston Hospital on the PCU (cardiac) Looking forward to it, as I had a great time there on my preceptorship.
