Violated NCLEX rules

Published

Hey guys, i took my exam yesterday and stopped at 205 and tried the trick says on HOLD. By the way when i was on break i had to call my work to tell them i won't be able to make it at 10 to pick up my patient, i was in the restroom one of the staff caught me and told me that he had to report what he saw, i told him that i didnt know i just assume that you can't use your phone during examination and inside the test room, and then he told me that he will see what will the board say if you have to be sent home or continue, and i told him that it was my job and he was like oh ok but then he said i still have to report it you still can take your test and we will let you know if you have to be sent home...., But i am still worried because i saw someones post that she was also got caught and had the same results on hold and then she got a letter from pearsonvue that she violated the law..... IM SCARED guys i stuided 24.7 for that test.. i just had to let it out and tell everybody whats going on...;(

all my stuff had to be locked up in a locker.....then we had to go thru a metal detector type of thing.....

VIOLATED POLICY

The same thing happened to me on Friday. I took the NCLEX RN and on my break I texted my husband that the test wasn't going good. He called and told me he would pray for me. When I was done with the test (265 questions) the lady asked me if I used my cell phone on break. I said "yes, I sent a text message." She said that she'd have to "chart that". I don't think she saw me, but maybe someone in the bathroom told her?

I honestly didn't know that we couldn't use our cell phones on break. Afterwards I looked at the rules and it indeed said that we couldn't, but I didn't see that beforehand. I've been working as an LPN for years here in MN. I'm not worried now if I have to retake my test, but I am really scared that the board will not let me get my RN or do something with my current LPN license.

Have you gotten any resolution to your situation???? Any more info?????

The paperwork one gets with instructions for taking NCLEX state the policy on electronics in very plain, black and white verbage. No electronics allowed, of any kind, for any reason, including phones. This applies to breaks as well as actual testing time. It isn't ambiguous! They state it in complete, plain English! With one's entire career riding on this exam it is just stunningly foolish not to read every single word on any paperwork recieved from Pearson Vue about the testing day. My sympathy level on this one is, frankly, pretty much nil. One phone call or one text can seriously delay or even kill many years of hard work to get to this point...why on earth would anyone do that to themselves?? There is zero reason for "not knowing". It isn't a matter of "I didn't know". It is a matter of "I didn't read the paperwork" or "I didn't absorb the rules" or even "I didn't think the rules applied to me" or "I didn't think they would enforce them".

Read the paperwork. Know the rules. Don't even bring your phone into the testing center. Plan on your exam taking the entire 6 hours. And yes, you will at a minimum have to wait another year (and pay for all over again) for the right to sit for NCLEX if you violate these rules. The entire testing center is filmed. If the violation is taken seriously enough you may be marked as unethical and NEVER get to take it. This is fair, this is right and this is NOT a surprise. It is all over the paperwork, all over the website and simple common sense.

I pray for the first patient under your care that does or did something you deem "stunningly foolish" or lacking "simple common sense." I recommend you go back and review EMPATHY before practicing on the job.

One day you will come to the realization that all people make all sorts of mistakes, and the most hurtful thing you can do is criticize and belittle them for it when they are obviously already aware of the mistake and in a high stress situation and asking for help. Hopefully that day is today.

Hang in there jojomx. I am sure your situation will be resolved shortly. Just stay patient and pray. Good things will happen.

Wow, I can only imagine your anxiety! While I agree that ignorance of the rules is never an excuse, I know you must be worried sick.

Have you found out more information from Pearson yet?

wow some people are harsh on this website, HELLO PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARENT AWARE OF THE CELLPHONE RULES!..........i hope everything goes well for you guys and hopefully you dont have to be on hold for too long hang in there keep your mind fresh of the material if ever you do have to wait 1 year to retake it...ill pray for you

I am sorry that some are unhappy with my answer. Compassion is not always couched in platitudes. The situation outlined in this thread makes my head hurt with the needlessness of it. The truth is, in this situation there is no "help" to be given. In this particular "mistake," it is what it is and nothing can be done. Therefore my "help" was actually geared toward those who are reading here and have yet to make that particular mistake - hence the encouragement in the second paragraph to walk the straight line and use common sense. I personally am not a fan of the tactic of hand patting and there-there'ing and giving false reassurance afterward. It is insulting to all parties involved and does no favors. It is false. I realize not everyone agrees. I have no idea if it is all going to work out for them or not, so I will not pretend that I think it will. I will, however, encourage those who can prevent this kind error from happening in their own journey to NCLEX to do all they can to respect what they have worked so hard for and to stack the odds in their own favor.

Thanks for your support!! Well, most of you anyway.

I haven't heard anything from Pearson yet. When I do the trick, it says my results are on hold.

I have been praying a lot. I saw from one or two people that posted here that I may have to wait a year. Does anybody have any more information? I tried directly emailing virtuoso, the person who started this thread, to see if she has gotten any resolution, but I have not heard anything back yet.

I hope everything goes well for you...good luck

Goodness...that's a terrible situation for the OP, but the people being "harsh" as some put it are spot-on. There is absolutely no excuse for not knowing the rules (which they hand you on a laminated double-sided sheet after you check in). People talk about common sense, but common sense is possessed by relatively few individuals. I realize this post is completely unsolicited, but I just can't imagine jeopardizing such an important exam over this kind of mistake. A valuable lesson learned going forward.

I am anxious to hear the outcome of this situation for the two of you so I know you guys must be insane with anxiety. Good luck to you!
