verbal contract

Published

Hi, I am currently under contract with American mobile. I originally wanted to extend my current contract, however I have changed my mind. Even though I havent signed the new contract my company is telling me that I can't change my mind. Does anyone know if this is true? Since I havent signed the new contract I dont see how they can force me to do anything. HELP! Hoyt69

My experience with AM is that they use alot of bully/scare tactics. Just remember that they can promise YOU the moon but if you don't get it in writing they don't have to do it.. Works the same way from your end.

If you didn't sign a contract the company can not hold it against you, if all else fails (if you are good with the manager), have them cancel the contract due to low census, that way the company can't come after you. Just be sure and communicate with the manager about everything. Just had to do that myself, with a company I was with that didn't want to pay as they were suppose to. Good luck :lol_hitti

Ask the company to put in writing the threat they are making. If you simply ask if the hospital was interested in thats not the same as agreeing to work there. Another nurse told me she had talked to a lawyer and they said if you agreed to work there and the company acted on that by contacting the hospital and telling them you had agreed to and then created a contract based on your verbal agreement that they can sue you for breech. Most travel agencies won't do that. If that company is that aggresive then they need to be brought to the attention of nurses via the press and forums like this

Hoyt no I did not have any problems but as soon as they told me verbal meant accepting I watched my responses. Seemed rotten to me.

Have you considered possibly trying a new company? It doesn't sound like AM is willing to work with you. As a traveler myself, I had circumstances that slightly changed my contract terms. (IE getting married, husband in military and having to travel etc.) My company and hospital were understanding and worked with me. I once had a larger company like yours say they were going to cancel my contract if I didn't work night shift. (MY contract was signed in writing for straight days.) You better believe I never went with that company again! GOOD LUCK.
