JFK hospital in Atlantis/Palm Beach FL
I worked there on assignment in 2007 and had a great assignment. Turnover is high, no nurse/pt. ratio but if you are a team player, keep organized, have a good attitude, then I think you should be fine. Be positive and have a good time. Best wishes

checking BP before giving BP meds?
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take BP and HR before giving BP meds. And you follow what the doctor wrote for parameters NOT what another nurse thinks you should do. If there is doubt you can always call the doctor with your concerns about giving or not giving the med. Who cares if they get upset with your call, they would be alot more upset if you sent the pt. into a code blue. And it is YOUR license, protect it and have peace of mind that you gave the med correctly.

Advantage Rn
wow, thank you for the info, i will ask the recruiter about these modules. i am sorry to hear your first assigment is rough, however at least as a traveler you will be out soon and dont have to go back, as far as the timesheet i currently have to have mine signed so i am used to that. as far as insurance goes i have been told by a former recruiter that getting my own insurance is cheaper so i think i will go that route. thanks again for the info and soon this assignment will be over and you wont have to go back to that facility again. keep smilin.

GSA Meals and Incidental Expenses
Hello, according to my tax preparer the per diem only comes into play if you have a permanent tax residence. I must confess I love traveling but the taxes can get a little confusing. hope this helped some.

Hi I have worked with Talemed, and had a very good experience. Once called (my recruiter) at midnight on Easter due to freak out over job-she was great!!!. iN FACT, i DECIDED TO CHECK OUT ANOTHER COMPANY,SIGNED A CONTRACT, THEN THE HOSPITAL CANCELLED ALL THE TRAVELERS DUE TO CENSUS BOMBING. i TOLD X AND SHE HAS AN INTERVIEW WITH A HOSPITAL SET UP FOR THIS mONDAY! Highly recommend them. Yvonne

I had to take care of druggies today, and was disgusted!
Empathy is a big part of nursing. We don't get to choose what illnesses our pt.s' have. Please educate yourself on addiction.

Letting CNA pass your meds, bad idea?
I have been a nurse for 3 1/2 yrs. Not only would I not allow a CNA give meds, I wouldn't give an injection or pills that ANOTHER NURSE handed me! I was relieved to see that you are writing an essay- you scared the hell out of me! LOL. Good luck with school

You are not losing jobs because you are a minority or because you are a male. It's because they found an applicant that they wanted more.

Anyone work for American Mobile?
I have been reading all of these replies to the question about AMN-WOW, my experience has ben completly diferent. My recruiter and my clinical liason have been wonderful and very supportive. On the first day of my last assignment I was told of extra responsibilities I would have-that were never mentioned in the interview- I reported this to both my recriuter and liason, I did not have to do another thing, they handled everything. The company ended up cancelling the contract due to the hospital with holding important information from me. I was not penalized in any way and the recruiter wanted to get me re-assigned right away. My recruiter has said many times that she wants her travelers to be happy-I have found that she is always trying to find the right assignment for me, my liason has been great!!!! I feel terrible for the nurses who had such a bad experince with AMN, mine has been quite rewarding.

Anyone work for American Mobile?
I have been working with AMN since jan of 2006, I have had a great experience with my recruiter, and my clinical liason. I have heard from others about bad recruiters at AMN but that has not been my experience. I guess it depends on who you get.
