Vent: Why so many local threads started in General Nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have noticed a recent trend here at Allnurses. I seem to be seeing a lot of local threads started in the General Nursing Forum and it's starting to get on my nerves :( I feel like I have to scroll past many posts that belong in the State Forums to get to anything related to general nursing. These posts are really cluttering up our main forum. Appears to be new posters in particular. So please, please new posters, if you want to know the wages in Atlanta post to the Georgia Forum or if you want to know about XYZ school in Chicago, post to the Illinois Forum. Pretty please with sugar on top :saint:

Thank you for the feedback.

New members are hesitant to post and the General Nursing forum just seems like the logical place to start.

As stated above, if you think a thread is TOS or needs relocating, or you are just not sure, but think Staff should be aware, please do click the triangle lower left of any post, send a report w/rationale, and Staff will address the report.

As for threads about XYZ nursing program, etc., if the member posted in a Student forum, that is o.k., does not need to be re-located, and need not be reported unless, again, you have concerns.

Duplicates posts? Please report.

Posting threads in more than one forum? Please report.

Member not a Nurse and needs a name change? Please report.

Blatant spammer .... please report.

We do ask, however, when you report, do not engage on the boards as this makes Staff job a little harder especially if it's a spammer. All this does is boost the spammer's thread to the top of a forum for the whole world to see. Report and Staff will take care of the spammer ASAP.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I was not aware there were forums for each state.

Then there's also the cadre of PRE-pre nursing folk asking for detailed info re decision for advanced educational degree programs and/or advanced employment positions. It's obvious that they have so limited understanding of even the basic fundamental school entry issues, employment opportunities and professional practice/ethics.

I support career development research, but, one has to crawl before one walks and then runs. And it's a long road ahead before these posters can start the marathon race.

People do not know how to forum.

I always chuckle when I see random threads on General Nursing that ask about admissions at some random community college in Maine or the pay of NPs in one area of West Virginia. I mean really?

Forums have search functions and sections for a reason.

Internet 101

Sometimes I think people will post here knowing they will get the most replies because it is the busiest forum on AN.

Let's not forget the immigration questions. Which city should I move to? How long will it take to get a job. They are in the general forum and in the national forums.

I always want to say, "I only live here, I don't write the national immigration policy".

Really, if you can find allnurses on the internet, I'm pretty sure you can use your google skills to find the national immigration service for the nation that you want to move to.

I totally understand it being frustrating when posts crowd up a board that should be somewhere else. Being somewhat new, I will say that the local boards are not easy to find. Even with all the searching and navigating over the last several months, I had no idea they existed... until one day I accidentally stumbled upon them... then when I wanted to find them again, I couldn't. So I used the search engine to find it. This may be why you are seeing so many local posts. It might not be that people are just lazy as was suggested by another commenter.
