I was in a patients room tonight, he had the news on tv.
There had a small bit on the local universities graduation ceremonies. There were two nursing students on there, talking about "We're so glad we're done. We didn't have any time to go out or have fun" :angryfire
Way to make the profession look a little better. :stone
Thankfully, the man couldn't hear worth a hoot. But others out there are probably looking at the screen thinking "I don't want you caring for me, momma/whoever"
I also agree that my social/personal life took a backseat to nursing school. It was hard to find time to see my friends who were not in the program. My "fun" was spent with my classmates in my program, going out to dinner with books/flashcards in hand. I have thoroughly been enjoying my Christmas Break. I can go to the movies, go shopping (and not just for groceries), and relax. I don't see their view as offensive, but true. They could have elaborated a little for those who don't have a clue what a nursing program is like...don't want others to misconstrue the statement as meaning they are out of school and ready to party instead of becoming serious, competent nurses. Everybody needs to have fun though.
And they think they'll have fun after graduation?
I couldn't help but laugh at that one.
Man, you really are a cynic! Yeah, after graduation you should have fun. You have worked hard and you deserve a little winding down.
A workplace shouldn't have a sweatshop atmosphere either. I can remember working at a factory putting together CD cases and it was so DEPRESSING! I dreaded going there everyday. I was actually working for a temp agency at the time, and on my next assignment at a car factory as I sang along to music playing over the speakers, I realized why my other job was so depressing--NO MUSIC!
Atmosphere can make a big difference in your job. I took this info along with me to another very boring job I had at Krystal's on third shift. I didn't have a radio, so heck I just sang out loud. I even had a few people who would stop by to hear me sing at times.
Employers should realize we are living breathing human beings and even if we are working, we want to be happy and feel good.
I certainly don't mean we should go dancing through the hospital like we were in a musical or something, but sheesh, I think happy workers who are in a good mood make for better workers.

Considering that someone recently posted a "what is the most entertaining unit to work on?" thread, why are you surprised?
