I work at a rehab.LTC for people with disabilities. There are 24 clients at this residential facility and we have one washer and one dryer. The washing machine broke about 10 days ago and our repair guy basically told us it wasn't salvable. Since then, three times a week at midday the staff has been taking all of the clothes to a local laundromat, folding all the clothes and bringing them back to the facility. As you can imagine this is a really big pain for staff, not to mention an inconvinience for the clients. Many of them have incontinence issues/feeding tubes/other things that sometimes get on their clothes....my point is that with this population laundry needs to be done more often. Overall this whole thing is just a pain. Management informed us that we wouldn't be getting a new laundry machine until they had sufficient funds to do so. So far we haven't been given a time frame as to when this would be possible.
Today, when I walked into work, in the lobby were two brand new sony plasma tv's. Now I don't know exactly how much those things cost. But I would bet more than a washing machine.

Maybe those TVs were donated. Maybe your facility could put an ad in the paper asking for someone to donate a washing machine.

so much for "priorities" huh ? i would think that going to the laundry mat would cost more than just purchasing a new washer and dryer. if you add it up over time, i think buying would be best. sounds like the powers that be are a little screwed in the head !

Isn't having on-site laundry a health department requirement?

My initial thought was, perhaps they were donated. I think the other posters idea of putting out an ad for donations would be a good idea. I totally feel you on the laundromat pain!!!!! I always considered personal W/D a necessity. Hauling all the laundry to a Laundr-o-mat is ridiculous! Perhaps managment can check out the PennySaver and get one gently used for dirt cheap. Just a thought.

I think it's time for an anonymous complaint to the Health Dept.

In the meantime see what ads could be found to get a replacement washer. I know I am selling my dryer in my garage sale for 50-75 bucks just to get it out the way.(runs perfectly) I have seen others do the same with washers.
Even if the the TV's were donated there are still ways to get what you need.
If someone was willing to donate plasma's, there is probably someone who is willing to donate a washer. I would sell a tv to get a washer if necessary.
I just hope there a another person out there who sees the priority.
