Vent: Irritating classmates

I've had to put up with the same obnoxious people for 2 quarters now. I swear, they're following me! :chuckle

In my A&P class there are 3 gals who get on absolutely everyone's nerves. They're always immaculately groomed - which is fine...I'd rather see people "together" than "disheveled", but we're talking not a hair out of place, dressed to the nines, nails perfectly manicured & polished. Most of us in the class (it's an evening class) work all day & come straight from the job...some are in scrubs, most others in jeans & sweatshirts or sweaters. We're tired, old & grouchy! :chuckle Then we see these gals sitting there in class, flirting with the instructor & every one of us would like to have words with them. Yesterday one of them gave the instructor some hard candy "for his breath" after class & they all asked him to come to the bio lab after he was done teaching his lab so that he could "help them".

They're in my lab class too & demand attention from him constantly. They're always flirting, making suggestive comments, etc. One day in class he was explaining a system & afterward they demanded "private instruction" (their exact words). They hadnt' been paying attention in the first place.

One of them has really irritated everyone in that she is the LAST PERSON DONE with the lecture exams. On exam day, we take the test, turn it in & leave, usually before the end of the class. She takes the test the entire class time & usually has to take it into our instructor's next class in order to finish it. Now, if she has a learning disability (I don't think she does, usually they have you take exams in the testing center) fine...but this is just nuts.

They stay after everyone else leaves in lab...chatting away with the instructor.

It's just sooo.....ANNOYING! :angryfire

I'd say they're all in their late 20's. They shouldn't be trolling for married instructors or flirting to get better grades. The rest of us work hard for our grades & don't appreciate them trying other methods to improve their gpa. It makes us all sick.

Unfortunately there's nothing we can really do about it. Obviously the instructor doesn't have a problem with it. He buys right into it. They did the same thing last quarter with that instructor too...the only thing being that he didn't buy into it as much. He gave us an hour to complete our tests...that one gal...she never was finished in time, so we would all have to wait on her so that we could go through the tests (he didn't let us leave after we were done).

I guess I'm not looking for anything by posting this...just getting it off of my chest. Only a week and a half left. I sure hope none of these gals are in any of my other classes.

EasyLiz & Phyrenrain:

- Sorry if I came on a little strong.

- Thing is, don't let yourself get consumed by your anger/emotions in

reflecting upon these people.

- I am seeing alot of this "blamming others for failure" syndrome in the

Microbiology class I am currently taking. We started with 135 and are

down to like 40. Class is being taught on the level of a Grad school

engineering course.

- Essentially, keep your focus and you'll do fine.

Gotta run,

What are they going to do when (if) they are nurses?

And wait till they have to remove their fake nails, and get up at 4:30 am for clinicals, do you think they will look so great then? :chuckle

I understand how it goes being annoyed. We have a few people who are very loud, and talk too much in class. We all know it's good to discuss and be active in class discussions, but two females in my class take it too far. One of my teachers was like..ok, you've had your turn, let someone talk. So, that was good. But another class, she went on with her own questions for about 15 minutes, which means we had to rush the rest of the lecture. It's just rude to me and ignorant. I can't stand people who just love to listen to their own loud mouths.

Another thing that bugs me...kissing up. Some teachers fall for it, and it's pretty aggrevating...but I guess that's how the work world is, so maybe it's good practice.

Try not to get bothered by them and concentrate on your own affairs. They are just demonstrating their survival skills. Lol. You should be thankful you don't need to flirt with anyone to pass a class. Anyway, if you mind your own business, your life would be so much easier. I say that to myself a lot too, if I mind mine own business, I'll be ok. Its for our good, I promise!

I figure that I am paying for the class with my money and my time and I intend on getting what I have paid for.

In algebra there were a couple of guys behind my desk who were taking the class as a review and frequntly chatted during lecture making it difficult for me to hear. I politely and quietly asked them during break to please stop as I couldn't hear.

The next day they continued and so I turned to them and told them very loudly to stop talking or leave as I needed this info. They were embarrassed and stopped. They later apologized.

I will not let inconsiderate people impede my class time. Plain and simple.

Now there are also times when the instructor goes over something numerous times because a few haven't grasped the concept..... this is fine with me. We are all there to learn. I have no problem with delays like this.

If this were occuring in my class (flirting etc), I would have no problem in talking privately with the instructor and voicing my concerns. If during classtime I needed the instructors help and he was being flirted to, I would just go there and say, "Mr Jones, I need you to help me with this ______ problem....". and start talking about it as I led him to my station.

If the flirters didn't like it, too bad.

I do not care what anyone does, dresses like etc, as long as I can still do my work and get my instruction. I like to have fun and joke around too, but not at the expense of other people and thier education.

I am the "happy" person in class, but when the instruction begins, I am all business.

So be strong, polite but remember "the squeeky wheel gets the grease"!

Hugs!

I did this during lab one day. He had told me that he would help me with reading EKGs & the flirters were beginning to try & circle around him & I said, "oh, you were going to help me with the EKGs" and he did. I got some looks from them, but I didn't give a flyin fig. He sat down & really explained how to read them, etc & I actually "got it" that time! :)

Good for you!!

Don't take it personally if they are offended, you are there to learn and it is your responsibility to make it happen.

You've got them in every class, girl! I know it can be annoying, but just suck it up and concentrate on you. You don't have time to be wasting your energy on others that get up your nose.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is so hard to learn anything with distracting people in class. I wish you luck in dealing with it. I know I had problems in my A&P I when I took it three years ago.

Good Luck!

I finally lost my cool today in class. And i'm so proud of me :D

That same dang group in the back would NOT shut up AGAIN. So as usual, on my break, i checked my digital recorder to see how well it picked up the instructor's lecture. Despite this thing being 3 ft from the instructor, it wound up being drowned out by the Giggle Squad in the back.

So when class got together after break was over, i cranked up the volume on this reorder and played a few seconds of it to a silent class, holding it in the air. I then said "I paid good money for this recorder. I paid good money to be here for nursing class and lecture. And this interferes with all of that."

You could have heard a pin drop for the remaining 4 hours.
