Vent: Husband lost job today with no warning

So about 2 hours ago my husband and I sat down to lunch and were watching the noon news cast. Suddenly they announce lay off/ job closings for Harley Davidson. My husband looks over and tells me everything is ok because he has not heard anything. Well after commercials they announce which sites are closing and one is the one he works at. So he is scheduled for 2nd shift today, I assume they'll be telling him and the other employees the news. I just wish we had known before being blindsided by the news. It really has not sunk in yet.:stone At least I know we will be ok but I feel so bad for those who won't be ok. :(

that really stinks.

and i'm sorry, meli.

maybe he should apply for a job with scooters, since that is the 'economical' alternative to motorcycles.

wishing you both well.

Oh, man, that bites.

I sweated it all weekend wondering if I'd still have my job Monday - layoffs were announced. I made it.

*sigh*

Hang in there.

Oh, good for U traumanurse.

I am sorry too. To have to find it out over the news on top of that. :(

I am so sorry....I was once laid off too from a very big telecommunications company that I had worked for 13years, and from that experience I decided to go back to school and become a nurse..perhaps this is an opportunity for him to reassess and choose other opportunities that are waiting. Its as if these moments of adversity are just opportunities that we yet have to discover.....really. I hope things go well for you both and my positive thoughts are for you.

My dad went through a lot of layoffs when I was a kid. My mom (a nurse) was ALWAYS the primary breadwinner. He had the opportunity to do a lot of things with us that most dads don't get to with their kids. But I know that he was ashamed to not be the primary source of income for a long time. He took a lot of jobs he didn't want and/or was overqualified for (re: retail, night manager at hotels, etc) to help pay bills.

I am so sorry. These really are some hard times we are in right now where no one is really safe. One of my classmates, who is a nurse, found out recently that she would be unemployed in a couple weeks because someone bought out her hospital and is closing the facility.

Ugh, that's a harsh way to get the news! My husband has had his hours severely cut, but is at least bringing in half of a paycheck thankfully. His ego has taken a hit though with not working like he normally does. Good luck in his job hunt!

Sorry to hear about that it is so scary my husband works for a steel company and is not getting overtime right now, had been getting overtime for 21 years at least he has a job for now...

What a terrible way to find out you've lost your job.

Hopefully the economy will bounce back soon and your husband and those he works with will be okay.

oh man that is too bad. I do believe everything happens for a reason, and something better may be out there that he would not realize if he still had his job.

best of luck and let us know how it turns out!

I'm sorry to hear this happened to your husband. I live with the ax hanging over my head. It's no fun. Good luck to you!

I feel your pain. The same thing happened to my husband around the beginning of the month. I've been working and extra eight hour shift a week at work. It's tiring but you have to do what you have to do. Good luck to you.
