So about 2 hours ago my husband and I sat down to lunch and were watching the noon news cast. Suddenly they announce lay off/ job closings for Harley Davidson. My husband looks over and tells me everything is ok because he has not heard anything. Well after commercials they announce which sites are closing and one is the one he works at. So he is scheduled for 2nd shift today, I assume they'll be telling him and the other employees the news. I just wish we had known before being blindsided by the news. It really has not sunk in yet.:stone At least I know we will be ok but I feel so bad for those who won't be ok.
I am so sorry....I was once laid off too from a very big telecommunications company that I had worked for 13years, and from that experience I decided to go back to school and become a nurse..perhaps this is an opportunity for him to reassess and choose other opportunities that are waiting. Its as if these moments of adversity are just opportunities that we yet have to discover.....really. I hope things go well for you both and my positive thoughts are for you.
My dad went through a lot of layoffs when I was a kid. My mom (a nurse) was ALWAYS the primary breadwinner. He had the opportunity to do a lot of things with us that most dads don't get to with their kids. But I know that he was ashamed to not be the primary source of income for a long time. He took a lot of jobs he didn't want and/or was overqualified for (re: retail, night manager at hotels, etc) to help pay bills.

and i'm sorry, meli.
maybe he should apply for a job with scooters, since that is the 'economical' alternative to motorcycles.
wishing you both well.
