AAAAaaaaaaaRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAaaarrrrrrrghhhh!!!!!

(I think that about sums it up...)

Great . . . I start a RN-BSN program in May. And I hate group projects.

I never even studied in a group.

Group projects can be a pain, or they can be great!! For one class we were allowed to pick our own group! Thought that was going to be great,NOT!! A few said, sure, I'll be in your group, then a next day, email and say, sorry, I went with another group,! What a pain. not a huge deal, but a pain none the less

The whole point of group projects in nursing school is to learn how to work as a TEAM! One of my classes last year we were allowed to take our final as a group of no more than 4, everyone was so siked because 4 brains are better than one! Of course in every class there is that someone who complains about everything and it just so happened that a student e-mailed the teacher saying she didn't want a certain student in her group because she thought she would bring the group down because that student was a C student, and not smart enough to be in their group of A students. This matter was brought to the classes attention and almost made the teacher make us take it by ourselves like we usually do... but then he taught us all a very good lesson, he said that no matter what grades you make in nursing school, whether it be a C or an A, both of them are coming out with the same degree and when we get out into the real world you are NEVER ALONE, and you will never know EVERYTHING about nursing, and one day that C student might be your co-worker who knows the answer that you don't, so it is imperative to bounce knowledge off of one another and learn from each other no matter how good their grades our, because if you don't have good TEAMWORK on the floor then its going to be a long hard ride.

So as much as everyone hates working in groups, I think its a pretty important to learn TEAMWORK in nursing school. Just my :twocents:

i can agree with all the above statements. group projects are terribly time consuming, i never seem to learn all the data, and the are a major pain in your schedule. on the other hand, teamwork is the key and they can be a lot of fun (depending on your group!) the best thing is to always start with a plan. divide up the work in your head and delegate it, unless someone else has a better idea. most of the times the work can be easily divided! the main thing is to take charge, because more often than not a lot of time is wasted with just piddling around.

Don't go with the friends you THINK you can count on...go with the friends you KNOW you can count on. I didn't listen to that.....and I wound up doing almost all the work for a project that was 45 mins long.....one member handed me the homepage to DCFS....and that was it...I had to look up all their own info......

group projects suck.....however, clinicals are fun with a group.....

Oh yeah! I remember a group project with three other students, two hard workers, and one weak member, but when she finally turned in her part we were stunned! It was totally worthless, and made no sense! I mean, NONE! Worse yet, she thought it was good. Well, the other group members and I split her part up bewteen us, and put it all together at the eleventh hour. OMG, the stress! True story, the next day at class she actually said these words: "We have to get an A on this, otherwise, I'm out!" Well, we did get that A, she was saved. I am a team member, but group projects can be a nightmare! Yikes, now you've given me a flashback :).

Group projects are awful when other members don't pull their share. I'm going through it now and was fortunate to have a good group. My previous 3 were absolutely atrocious. Grit your teeth and perservere!

My class is strictly online, and most of this one is group projects (comes to 50% of the final grade). As the professor pointed out, what we are studying is done by committees (curriculum development) in the real world, so we need to learn to do it in groups in the first place. Neat part is, we also grade each other on participation etc., and that is also figured into our final group grade.

I HATE group projects right now. It was diferent in undergrad, when it was easier to get together, and you knew all the people you could work with. Here in grad school everyone works outside of class, lives farther away, and is older/has more responsibilities. You also have people from all the grad programs in one class, FNP, PNP, WHNP, NNP, etc. So nobody knows anyone. I ended up in a semester-long preselected group where 3 of us are rational humans, and one is a woman who is WAY too concerned with our first 5% project while the rest of us are done with it, and have move on to the next 30% grade project. She also wants to meet EVERY WEEK before class for this ONE project! THE REST OF US ARE DONE ALREADY!!! EXCEPT FOR YOU!!! AAAGH!!!!

I'm a 2nd semester undergrad (well, everyone in the class is, too) in an LPN to BSN completion program, so, like Steve said, we all work outside of class, live further away, have families/homes to take care of, etc. And we work a variety of shifts.

I know they're supposed to teach teamwork, but I really don't like my grade depending on what others do, or that other people's grades depend on what I do. I'm jut not happy with either side of that equation.

Ah, well, it's due tonight, so it'll all be over in less than 12 hours.
