VCU's accelerated program 2015

Published

Hi all!

I'ved applied to VCU's 2015 accelerated BS program and now am waiting for January to come...3 months is going to go by too slowly but I'm so excited too!

I'm reaching out to any current applicants to learn about you and your background...please share! :) I'm currently an Athletic Trainer and have been working in this field for the past 11 years but have decided to take a turn in my career and become a nurse! I'm hoping my experiences will be in my favor.

Also reaching out to previous & current students to ask you your tips for success in the program. Please share anything that works for you!

so sorry about that. that has to be the worst. i hope that won't let you stop from applying next year if you have the time.

it's crazy to think only about one more month and decisions will be out! i've done pretty well at forgetting about it and putting it on the back burner, but i've been thinking more and more about it as we get closer.

hey guys, I also applied to the ABSN program and am anxiously awaiting a decision. I live in Charlottesville, and am looking for suggestions from people of where to look for housing between Charlottesville and Richmond, or at least a little on the west/northwest side of Richmond. My fiance works in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, etc, and so we can't move all the way inside the Richmond area as he would be too far from his territory. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!!

So it's January... Anybody else freaking out about getting the email at the end of the month??

I'm definitely freaking out. I don't know if I can wait until the end of the month. It looks like last year decisions went out around the 25th even though they were also told they'd find out on the 31st!

I would look at Gum Spring and areas in Goochland county. Bear in mind that there is a whole lot of nothing between Richmond and Charlottesville, and no real population centers between the two (they're about 70 miles apart). Keep in mind that even if you're on the western outskirts of Richmond (say, for example, Short Pump), your fiance is still going to have at least a 90 minute drive to Staunton and close to 2 hours for Harrisonburg. If I were you, I'd move to the Keswick area or the like in eastern Albemarle County so at least you're still in greater Charlottesville but still an hour or so from Richmond. Another area to consider is Zion's Crossroads near the Albemarle/Fluvanna/Louisa border. I hear parking at VCU sucks, and contrary to what many Cvillains would say ("Richmond is only an hour!!"), it takes about an hour and fifteen to get from "downtown" Charlottesville to downtown Richmond.

Thanks so much for your response, VANurse! I think you're right that we would probably prefer to remain in Charlottesville and commute, though the drive might be a pain!

I think we will be hearing something next week...

Hopefully! I'm so nervous and excited at the same time!!! What is your background wimeraww?

Let us know when you hear.

I will definitely post when I hear something. As far as my background, I went to JMU for Biology. I'm working as a CNA right now. I am looking forward to moving to Richmond too. I have some friends that live there and really love it.

Good luck to everyone! I also applied to VCU as my only school for the ABSN. Thinking now maybe that wasn't the best choice. ha.

I just left a career with the military/government of almost 16 years to go into medicine. I will be 37 in July, so probably one of the older potential students.

I lived and worked in DC at the White House for 7 years, but have spent the last 5 years in Texas and Colorado, so it will be good to get back to the friends I have in VA.

Good luck to everyone, hopefully I will see you all at VCU.

scottryana--I too will be 37 this summer...ha! I figured I would be the oldest to apply! I've been an athletic trainer for 12 years and VCU is my one and only choice for ABSN too. Good luck to you as well!
