VCU's accelerated program 2015

Published

Hi all!

I'ved applied to VCU's 2015 accelerated BS program and now am waiting for January to come...3 months is going to go by too slowly but I'm so excited too!

I'm reaching out to any current applicants to learn about you and your background...please share! :) I'm currently an Athletic Trainer and have been working in this field for the past 11 years but have decided to take a turn in my career and become a nurse! I'm hoping my experiences will be in my favor.

Also reaching out to previous & current students to ask you your tips for success in the program. Please share anything that works for you!

Alliegem....we are lucky that you are willing to post your thoughts/comments, thank you! Please feel free to share ANYTHING, especially tips for success that others shared with you or you discovered this past year. Thanks!!! .....Btw, what is evolve, HESI, elsevier?

Alliegem I know you were up in Northern Virginia before attending VCU...are you planning to stay in the Richmond area or move back to Northern VA? I'm just asking in terms of job prospects (I know it's early) how you think the market is in Richmond? Thanks!

Hi everyone. I got waitlisted at #2.. but I'm staying positive and hoping I'll still make it in!!

@bbcd, evolve/hesi/elsevier are programs online that we use in conjunction with other course materials to prepare us for the NCLEX. Think of it like Kaplan or things like that. :) You will be introduced to all of that during orientation in May.

@morjayne - I believe I'll be staying in Richmond. It's cheaper to live and the jobs will pay practically the same compared to NOVA. In terms of the job market - many of the students in the accelerated cohort that just graduated have accepted jobs at VCUHS, Chippenham and other local hospitals. I also have a friend that graduated from GW's accelerated program and already has a job at iNOVA Fairfax. So it really comes down to where you want to be. You will be a hot commodity once you graduate and pass the NCLEX!

Also, I think it was on this thread that someone was talking about living costs. It gets significantly cheaper if you can find one or two roommates. Yes - the one bedrooms and studios are around $1000, but I have a 3 bedroom apartment in Shockoe bottom and pay less than $500 a month including all utilities (and there will also be a unit opening up in May if anyone wants to jump on that).

Congratulations Morjanye4. Looking forward to meeting & learning with you! :)

I was also granted admission! I'm so excited. I'm hoping for good news for you waitlisters out there!!

allie, I have a question for you! How many people in this accelerated program go on immediately to one of VCU's NP programs? My end goal is psychiatric np. Do you think I would be able to get into VCU's psych np program right after the accelerated or would I need to work as an rn for a while? Thanks!!

Hello fellow applicants! I've been lurking for a while now. I just wanted to report that I've been accepted to the program, but I am really nervous because the decision deadline is less than 1 month away! VCU is the first school that I've heard back from. I hope that the decision I make is the right one.

Hello everyone! Congratulations to all of you who were accepted! just found out that I was accepted also, but I've decided to accept UVA's offer for their CNL program, which was my first choice.

So ... this will help those of you on the waitlist! I am so happy for all of you, and I'm also happy to be able to open a spot for the waitlisted folks! Yay!

Best of luck to all of you! My program also starts in May. Cheers to all of us!

hey yall very excited to join those accepted and accepting the offer of admission!!

Thank you bbcd congratulations to you as well and everyone else!

Hey guys!

I've been reading through this forum recently and am so thankful for all the information here. I'm happy to say I received my acceptance email this morning too :) I wasn't expecting to hear on a Saturday but it was a great way to wake up! I am still waiting to hear from several other schools as VCU is the first I've heard from. The program sounds really great and it would most likely be the least expensive option for me. I'd be moving from Northern Virginia (Alexandria) and looking to live off campus. Definitely interested in finding people in the program to live with if I do choose to attend VCU.

I hope I can make a decision soon & make the right one! Also looking forward to hearing from everyone else.

Hi everyone!

I have been accepted as well! I am so excited to start in May and to meet everyone!
