Hi all!
I'ved applied to VCU's 2015 accelerated BS program and now am waiting for January to come...3 months is going to go by too slowly but I'm so excited too!
I'm reaching out to any current applicants to learn about you and your background...please share! :) I'm currently an Athletic Trainer and have been working in this field for the past 11 years but have decided to take a turn in my career and become a nurse! I'm hoping my experiences will be in my favor.
Also reaching out to previous & current students to ask you your tips for success in the program. Please share anything that works for you!
I lived in AZ for four years. I remember the drive from that area to VA...I drove cross country with 3 cats. It was pretty crazy, but the scenery was nice! Goodluck with your drive :) One more question: when you sign into BB now can you see your courses listed under "courses"? I'm not seeing mine and am wondering if I completed the registration for my courses correctly. Sorry to bug you with all these questions (like you aren't busy enough!!). I feel like I'm missing some piece at the end. I add the classes I want but I don't see a submit button to like "add" them add them. Oy.
I am not seeing them in BB or on the main myVCU page. I am not sure if it takes a day to matriculate, but if I go back to the "student" tab under eservices and then click on "student schedule" it shows that I am registered for those classes. And also gives me the link to order the text books. But it tells me that there are no text books registered for the courses so I will need to look around a little more.
Hello, everyone and congratulations to everyone that got in! I am graduating with my B.S. in Psychology this coming up December and am planning on applying for the Summer of 2016 start date! I just want to get an idea of the credentials that many of you had that got into the program, and if you're a person that feels like they got in by the skin of your teeth, then I am especially interested. I tend to be a worrier and just want to get an idea of where I may stand in the admissions process, which changes from year to year based on the candidates that apply.
I started out at Virginia Tech for my freshman year and maintained only a 2.75 GPA, which was disappointing. I have since transferred to VCU and maintained a GPA of about a 3.5 in my courses here, while also taking some classes at local community colleges (all A's there). I'm sure they will take all three transcripts into account, which would leave me at about a 3.3-3.4 GPA. I completed all of the prerequisites, having to take VCU anatomy a second time after getting a C the first time (a B the second time and then became a preceptor the following semester). I have also worked as a CNA for the past two years at a couple of locations (none of them with VCU, sadly).
I understand if you don't want to disclose anything, but would really appreciate some help on understanding my position as an applicant. I hope that everyone is enjoying there time, and can find some time to help a brother out! Thank you!

Hey vcuram2015,
I don't mind sharing my stats. I was initially wait-listed (rank #4) when I applied to start in Summer 2014. I was still completing A&P II and Developmental Psych in Spring 2014...I think if I'd had those completed, I wouldn't have been wait-listed initially. Anyway - I was pulled from the wait list in the first round.
As for your GPA - they don't just average your GPAs from different schools - they add up all the grade points, divide by what you achieved and figure it out that way. For our cohort, the admitting GPA ranged from 2.95-4.0.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology (3.31 GPA) and took some prereqs at NOVA (3.64). SAT from high school was 1180.
After the first bachelor's, I worked in ophthalmology for three years doing patient care every day. I had quite a bit of volunteer experience outside of the medical field, too.
A&P I - B
A&P II - A
Developmental Psych - A
Micro - B+
Stats - A+
2nd science - A+
Hope this helps and good luck in your application process!

I'm applying for VCU's ABSN program starting in May 2016. I was wondering if any accepted or waitlisted applicants minded posting which test they took and test scores. GPAs would be helpful also. Also I took statistics and sociology at JMU, but didn't do as well as I would have liked (freshman year slacker). I've done well in all other pre-reqs but I was wondering would VCU take into account my sociology and statistics grades if I retake them in the Spring 2016. I don't know if it's worth it because decisions would be mailed out before I finish those two classes. Thanks for any advice!
The first round of people to be accepted off the wait list happened about a month after the first acceptance and wait list emails were sent out. The highest wait list number I know of that was accepted and is in the program now is #29. But people were still getting accepted off the wait list up until the day before orientation in mid May.
@grace_anatomy thank you for the quick reply!! Wow #29?!! Okay there's hope for me because I am #32 sadly... but I do have 4 other back up options I am waiting to hear back from since VCU is the first school I heard back from. My hope is so thin now and I'm having the least amount of expectations now

Yes it did. I had to contact LaToya, to have her unlock it for me. The other 2 were no problem but 261 was an issue. She unlocked it and no problem. :)
I am coming from over by the Grand Canyon. I wasn't planning on school until Aug, so I was out driving around the country. lol.
