VCU ABSN Summer 2017 Hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone!

I know it's somewhat early to start a topic, but the threads from the previous years have been extremely helpful to look through. Especially seeing the stats of the previous students who have been accepted.

I am currently a student at VCU who will be graduating in May, and I am majoring in Health Science. My current GPA is 3.45. I have completed all of the pre-requisites except Anatomy and Physiology, which I am currently taking at a community college. I am about to finish part 1 of A&P with an A. I am a little worried about this course because I took Anatomy at VCU and didn't finish with the grade I liked, so I am retaking it now. I was wondering if anyone knew if retaking a class could seriously impact a decision?

I have a pretty average SAT score. (I was thinking about taking the GRE in hopes of getting a high score and submitting those instead of the SAT, but I'm not sure if I should?) I have volunteer experience at the ER at MCV, and plenty of volunteer experience outside of the health field. I have also participated in several clubs. I have a CNA license, and I worked as a CNA for about a year before entering college.

I am also applying to Bon Secours, but I am researching other programs as well. I am hoping to hear from former and current students and any advice about the application process!

Wait listed at #80 and I'm so disappointed! I feel like I was a really qualified applicant with good gpa, relevant work history, and awesome recommendations. I have no chance!

Yeah...I get that. That's what makes it so discouraging.

On the bright side, you'll get in before me! But all jokes aside, I emailed to see if it was possible to review my application to see where needs improvement for future reference. I felt like I was a really strong candidate :/

From previous threads, I read #29 got pulled. Hopefully we all still have a chance  Did you guys apply anywhere else?

Just vcu for me. Budget won't allow me to go anywhere else for right now. You?

My situation is the same. I just started a new job over the summer. Trying to support my mom after losing my dad to cancer, so it's been tight.

Hey guys! Just checked and I got wait listed at #8. Trying to remain positive, I've looked through older threads and also read that #29 got pulled so that gives me hope!

Hi guys! I'm currently in my second semester in the accelerated program. I don't know how many people were pulled off of the wait list for my cohort, but I do know one person who wasn't pulled off until less than a week until classes began! Hopefully you all will know sooner than we did since we didn't receive our decisions until January 15th. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Wow, that's crazy! How is the program so far? Do you love it? and are the classes manageable?

Thank you for sharing that with us! Do you happen to know if we're notified if we move up the waitlist?

Marie1995, I do like the program a lot. It has it's ups and downs, just like any other program. I've liked almost all of my professors & clinical instructors and it is very manageable! You just have to be able to budget your time and be prepared to put in a lot of work outside of classes. However, I am not working yet so I do have the time to get my work done easily!

vcu17, I'm not exactly sure how the waitlist works since I was not wait listed when I applied. I think (I'm not sure though) that after the tuition deposit deadline they'll send out another email pulling people off of the wait list and they may update the number you're at then. I doubt that they'll keep updating after that since it's a lot to keep up with.

Are there a lot of students who work? I hear that a lot of students get jobs as Cate Partners. I also hear summer is the hardest semester, is that true?
