Hello everyone!
I know it's somewhat early to start a topic, but the threads from the previous years have been extremely helpful to look through. Especially seeing the stats of the previous students who have been accepted.
I am currently a student at VCU who will be graduating in May, and I am majoring in Health Science. My current GPA is 3.45. I have completed all of the pre-requisites except Anatomy and Physiology, which I am currently taking at a community college. I am about to finish part 1 of A&P with an A. I am a little worried about this course because I took Anatomy at VCU and didn't finish with the grade I liked, so I am retaking it now. I was wondering if anyone knew if retaking a class could seriously impact a decision?
I have a pretty average SAT score. (I was thinking about taking the GRE in hopes of getting a high score and submitting those instead of the SAT, but I'm not sure if I should?) I have volunteer experience at the ER at MCV, and plenty of volunteer experience outside of the health field. I have also participated in several clubs. I have a CNA license, and I worked as a CNA for about a year before entering college.
I am also applying to Bon Secours, but I am researching other programs as well. I am hoping to hear from former and current students and any advice about the application process!
I'm halfway through the second semester and I love it! It can be difficult but it is most definitely manageable, and I think that most of the cohort would agree with that. The school is really good on having all your professors work together to create a schedule that is less stressful for the student. For example, you'll never have more than 1 test a week. The professors and clinical instructors are amazing! Everyone is so willing to help you succeed in the program. As far as getting prepared for the program - just wait! Of course get everything done that they ask, like immunizations, but as far as content goes they will give you all you need to know during the semester!
The summer semester wasn't bad! The tests were very spaced out, and the workload was manageable. Everyone finished out with good grades. And trust me when I say you can still have a social life! Even this semester I'm in, which is a little more difficult than last (but still manageable), you have time to have a social life. Like I said, this program is amazing when it comes to our schedules! They also have tutors and different resources for students if you need any sort of help. The program is great!
Hi people! I don't know if you all will see this, but I am currently finishing my undergrad at UR, and VCU's accelerated program is my top choice, especially because hopefully I can keep my flexible and decently-paying job in RVA. I wanted to know how many hours are spent in class/clinicals/studying, and how feasible it would be to keep my job to support myself throughout the program? (I would work anywhere between 12-25 hours a week, as much as I could reasonably fit.)
You typically meet for each class once a week, plus your clinical. For me, I try to study about an hour each day (some days I get to it, some I don't). Before exams, I probably study 2-3 hours per day for about 4 or 5 days in advance. The course load is definitely manageable even with a job. In fact, a lot of us have jobs as Care Partners at the hospital. I typically work around 12 hours, but I know several people who work around 25 hours a week and we are all managing just fine! Working is something I don't think you should worry about! You will have time for studying, working, and a social life, it is most definitely possible!
Hi,I applied to VCU ABSN for the year 2018 and was wait listed. How do you find out what number you are on the wait list?
For us, when they sent out the waitlist letter, our number on the waitlist was included. I know in previous years that they have not done numbers before, so maybe they are going back to that method

I know this is an old post but can anyone from the old cohort tell us how the program is going so far or how to get prepared for it? what to expect? how intense it really is? thanks
