HELP!! 1 job offer and another interview!!!
Thanks for your response, cleback! VCU sent me a written offer via email about an hour after the interview, so there's that to think about. But I'll take what you said into consideration and call the second hospital! Maybe they'll be able to move the interview up, but like you said it's unlikely they'll make a decision that quick. If they can't make the decision quickly, I suppose I'll stick with VCU. Also that quote is so spot on right now!

HELP!! 1 job offer and another interview!!!
I am currently a nursing student graduating this December. I applied at 2 different hospitals, VCU and UVA, but I have been leaning more towards UVA. Both are amazing hospitals to work for, and I'm finishing my degree at VCU so I am familiar with the hospital already. Well today I had an interview at VCU and was offered the job on the spot! The manager wasn't pushy about me making a decision quickly and said that an offer would be sent via email. Well after the interview, I received a call from HR asking about a decision (also not pushy), but that I needed to make a decision by Tuesday. Well, I have an interview at UVA but it's scheduled in 2 weeks! When I interviewed on the unit at VCU, I really liked it and the staff was amazing. I know I would enjoy working there but I also don't want to miss out on the opportunity to even consider UVA. I also don't want to decline the offer at VCU and then not get offered a job at UVA. I have no idea what to do!! Should I accept the offer at VCU, still go to the interview at UVA and then subsequently retract my offer from VCU if I get into UVA? Or should I decline the offer at VCU and interview at UVA? I feel like retracting my offer is unprofessional and leaves a bad impression, I'm very conflicted right now!! Any insight or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't believe so!

For us, when they sent out the waitlist letter, our number on the waitlist was included. I know in previous years that they have not done numbers before, so maybe they are going back to that method

You typically meet for each class once a week, plus your clinical. For me, I try to study about an hour each day (some days I get to it, some I don't). Before exams, I probably study 2-3 hours per day for about 4 or 5 days in advance. The course load is definitely manageable even with a job. In fact, a lot of us have jobs as Care Partners at the hospital. I typically work around 12 hours, but I know several people who work around 25 hours a week and we are all managing just fine! Working is something I don't think you should worry about! You will have time for studying, working, and a social life, it is most definitely possible!

I'm halfway through the second semester and I love it! It can be difficult but it is most definitely manageable, and I think that most of the cohort would agree with that. The school is really good on having all your professors work together to create a schedule that is less stressful for the student. For example, you'll never have more than 1 test a week. The professors and clinical instructors are amazing! Everyone is so willing to help you succeed in the program. As far as getting prepared for the program - just wait! Of course get everything done that they ask, like immunizations, but as far as content goes they will give you all you need to know during the semester! The summer semester wasn't bad! The tests were very spaced out, and the workload was manageable. Everyone finished out with good grades. And trust me when I say you can still have a social life! Even this semester I'm in, which is a little more difficult than last (but still manageable), you have time to have a social life. Like I said, this program is amazing when it comes to our schedules! They also have tutors and different resources for students if you need any sort of help. The program is great!

Has anyone else emailed the SON to see the status of the waitlist? I'm getting very anxious as the weeks pass by í ½í¹ I've emailed them twice since January about it and they've been very helpful/informative, but I didn't want to do it again within such a short period of time... lol

@marie1995 That's great you have a plan for living arrangements! My boyfriend just told me today that he's moving back to Richmond, so that's one thing less I would have to worry about as I would be able to live with him. Have you heard back from other schools? I applied to GMU as well but VCU is my top choice for sure, have you put any thought into the 2nd degree traditional program?

@marie1995 I know! I emailed the SON on the 27th of February to see if there had been any movement or if we would be notified soon, and they said there has been no further movement on the waitlist I've been looking through the old threads though, and number 19 on one thread didn't find out until April 27th. I was originally number 18, so I'm starting to expect I'll ~hopefully~ hear back around then, even though that's really late. Where have you been looking to stay? I have no idea what I'll do for living arrangements if I get notified that late. Did you apply anywhere else?

GMU ABSN program 2017 applicants
Hello everyone! I'm new to this thread, but I've been following it. I was wondering if anyone applied anywhere else? I applied to VCU as well and wanted to weigh out my options. I don't know too much about GMU's program. Thanks!

@coder24, you sound like an awesome candidate! The ABSN program is summer entry. Fall entry is just for the traditional program. Spring 2018 is for the second degree traditional program! To anyone who who is currently in the accelerated nursing program -- I am curious about when/if people are still getting pulled from the waitlist. I know that in threads from previous years, there were students in the program who had information or knew ahead of time if people were getting pulled. If anyone has any information, please share :)

You should feel excited! I just got notified I'm #6. The past few years they've pulled around 25 people! And looking at the previous threads, they do pull a few rounds. The first round of people just got pulled, and the second usually doesn't get pulled until about a month later (don't quote me on that though). Don't stress, I am confident we'll here back soon :)
