Nurses General Nursing

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! Just thought I would create a page for us to chat about the upcoming application process and everything that follows! I graduate in May 2020 and am hoping to apply for the CVICU or the adult ED.

Specializes in ICU.

I just revived a phone call from ---- as well as an email offering me a position in the adult ED. Definitely some considerations I need to do, I have two other ED offers that pay a lot more.

Hopefully everyone else hears back soon!!

CONGRATS! How much is offering, if you don't mind me asking? I've heard it's significantly less than other hospitals.

Vandy is:

  • $23.05 base for critical care
  • $3.50 night differential
  • $6.00 weekend differential

but you have to pay like $50/mo for parking too.

Centennial ED offered me

  • $24.15 base
  • $3.50 night differential
  • $2.00 weekend differential

and they give $150/mo loan repayment.

So is like $350-$400/mo less

That weekend differential is nice at ! But the $50/mo for parking is unfortunate.

I ended up not interviewing at either facility, but the hospital I accepted a position at here in Florida offered:

$25.75 base

$4.00 night differential

$4.05 weekend differential

Free parking. I don't think they have loan reimbursement, but I also didn't ask because I don't have any student loans.

I am surprised Nashville is offering less than Florida, because the cost of living out there is a little bit higher. Definitely lots to consider, but super exciting you got offered ER positions at both facilities!

Yeah I’ll have to look into how many weekend shifts you actually work per month. Even then the difference in weekend differential is $4 between the two facilities which if you work one weekend a month which I feel is pretty typical, it’s only an extra $96 at . If you had to work every other weekend then your getting to $200 extra which makes it better but I don’t know I wanna work every other weekend haha.

I just had my interview yesterday for the surgical track and it went so good! --------------- welcomes you upon arrival and makes you feel very at ease and the interview was very straight forward and nothing I was not expecting. Only about 7 questions I would say and all very easy questions! The total interview lasted about 30 minutes. Also was told I would hear back already on Friday, so they are making offers soon after interviews for anyone wondering. Good luck to everyone, you will do great!

Hey there! CONGRATS on the interview! Do you remember any specific questions they asked you?

Congratulations on your multiple offers! I got offered a position in the ED too but as you say the pay scares me. As far as weekends, every 3rd weekend is required. They are self-schedule so you could pick up more weekends if needed.

Can you tell me more about Centennial? Do they have a residency and educational opportunities similar to ? I want to get my Masters soon but I have to start paying back loans from undergrad.

CONGRATS on your offer as well. Centennials big benefit that others don't offer is loan repayment to pay off current student loans. It's an HCA thing, so all TriStar hospitals offer it as they're all operated by HCA. It is $150/mo. HCA also offers tuition reimbursement as most hospital do, in order to further your education. HCA offers $5,250 a year for tuition reimbursement.

Tuition reimbursement is where, to my knowledge, has them beat. According to their website, you can take one three unit course, three times per year that they will pay for. At $1,640 per unit, that's about $15,000 per year. I could be wrong with this so you might want to call and ask. But everyone has told me if you plan to further your education, Vandy is worth considering for an employer because they have the best benefits in that area. I don't plan on going back any time soon so that's not a big deal for me.

Another big consideration for me is at Centennial, there is no ER techs, the nurses do everything. Whereas at most other hospitals, Vanderbilt included, they have ER Techs and Paramedics to help out.

Hope that helps some.

So I've decided to turn down my offer at Vanderbilt and go with another area offer in the ED that I received. I'll be looking to move from California to East Nashville area late June/early July. If anyone is moving to the area and going to be looking for a roommate, please shoot a message, would be nice to room with another nurse resident!
