Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Winter 2021

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi guys!

I have not seen a thread for the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency program for Winter 2021 and thought I'd make one! I am currently in the process of applying. I am on my first part of my application. I would love to hear whose applying, what unit they are applying to and your experience so far!

I keep checking this thread as if something will magically change even though I didn’t get an email notification. LOL is it possible to just sleep for two weeks straight? Like maybe I can just turn in my homework assignments two weeks in advance and sleep the month away. I would like time to go faster. It’s really hard scheduling for other interview opportunities. I had two emails from other hospitals the same day as the VUMC interview and I was just turned off like noooo, I know what I want already ?? (anyways, I’m scheduled for them, just was being stubborn about it)

Did anyone get an email?

I guess we’re all dealing with our own little things! I’m interviewing with other places and getting offers but having a hard time knowing that I’ve yet to interview with Vanderbilt... ughh can time fly by for all of us!

Wow! Offers already?? Congrats! I wish all hospitals moved so fast in the process

Aaah okay so that’s a generic email everyone gets or just for potential prospects? LOL I was excited reading that email but now I am unsure if it meant anything at all

LOL I don’t know! I had the same questions ?

Specializes in Student.

I have my interview on Tuesday and I am NERVOUS YALL!

Going through past threads and seeing what kind of questions people were asked, I've got it down pretty well what my answers would be in the event that I am asked those same questions. However, the interview that I was offered is a different unit than what I had originally applied. So what in the world do I say if asked “Why this unit?” I’ve done research on what would be asked of me and what type of care is given in the unit but not knowing anyone currently working at VUMC or anyone for that particular unit, I’m kind of going in blind to this in a way.

Lmao at "specializes in student". I think they will know that's not the unit you wanted. Personally, I would verbalize the unit you originally wanted but you are grateful for the opportunity to interview for any unit because Vanderbilt is an excellent teaching hospital that will supplement your career and guide you to nursing excellence, from there I would use the info provided about that unit your interviewing and what you hope to learn from those objectives. You got this! ? What unit is it?

you got this! The fact that you were granted an interview means that you were qualified for the job, and really now it all comes down to luck. Just journal your experiences and be yourself. As cheesy as that sounds, it really is the best advice I can give for this interview, it is as simple as that. They will ask you why vanderbilt and why the unit and behavioral questions, which you already know and are prepared for. You are gonna rock it, I have no doubt.

You've got this! I wanted to be so spot on with the questions that I wish I would have let my personality shine through more. They are looking to make sure you are a good fit for the unit and that you can communicate effectively. ? Any job with VUMC is a valuable one and be sure to let them know that!! You can say that while doing research you discovered that this unit would actually be a great fit for you! I can tell that you are interested in the job or you wouldn't be nervous. They are on the tail end of interviewing so making them laugh to keep their attention might be helpful. Just be yourself as I am sure that you are AWESOME! And good luck!

I had the same thought that if I didn’t study so hard on the questions, my personality could have shined through more but I’m hopeful for all of us!
